True, but in terms of logistics, it would have to be collection only for the clams and from the South Coast, how long would it take to sell 6-8 of them though. It's just quite risky...

honestly if they save some fair amount of weight, I'm sure you'll have way enough buyers

The problem being you won't know the exactl weight saving until the moulds are made and a clamshell has been made from them, so there's a certain amount of guess work.

I have to say I'd think there would be market for them, albeit a small one. If there was a way to get them to Europe to the Speedster market that would obviously increase the market size considerably. Once the moulds are done, have you got storage for a 'run' (say, 20-off each) to get the retail down a bit further or would manufacturing cost be in the inhibitor?

There would definately be a market for front shells If they were only ~£650 I might even get one to play with some grills/vents :)

It's a big ask, but If you could get them done in CF (even if it's just a weave for the top layer) then you've got something that people just can't manage with the normal clam (not without a load of sticky backed CF anyway!). When I had my new clam a while back, finishing + spraying (including doing the bonnet to match) was £550, so it's definitely worth a load extra if you can get enough of a finish that it doesn't need painting.

I think that although a load of people like real performance things for their car - a lot of people like the bling too :) If you can produce something that is both, I'm sure you won't have trouble selling. I'd definitely be in the market for a CF rear clam (mine's currently got the flaky fibreglass problem).

I totally agree the collection is a nightmare. In the protective box it's easy - but you dont have one of them I guess you need to hire a van... Either that or you offer a drive in + swap service, but that would be a load of hassle.

Bare CF is very tricky as any imperfections and it's no good at all, for smaller items it's not so bad but one blemish in a huge piece is a nightmare.

There's no way you could offer delivery, as you'd need a pretty large van and to pay someone to drive all over the country to do a one off delivery would be very costly.

The cost of making the moulds is not inconsiderable and I would probably need to sell 6x front clams and 6x rear clams @ £650+ each to actually break even. Your thoughts?

but this is a business opportunity.. there will always be risk when you bring something to the market. But to sell 6 of each i dont think this is much just because if you breakeven after 6 then its pure profit from there onwards.

but you have to realise that unless people are hunting for a front/rear clam they are not going to buy one, so it will be a case of breaking even over 6months or something.... then again winter is coming up soon :(
