just out of interest, did any of you come up against Rob in the Focus RS?

See thread HERE

Seems to think he might have given a few VX220's a run for their money, although they're a bit *ahem* Max Power on that board and want to take on all and sundry at TLGPs...

Sounds like a great day out!

cheers
Nick

can't get through to that site, access denied. If it was the blue rs focus, not a problem.straight line speed not a great deal in it, but the guy would brake way to early for the corners. The problem is he would hold the line and not move out of the way,and as we weren't allowed to over take on bends had to hold back. After a while got bored, so waited till next corner, the rs accelerating would always drift out wide, so I just EASILY nipped up the inside. Probably because i was hanging back gave him the illusion he was holding his own. NO WAY. Ian

cheers Ian - pretty much as I suspected. I'm just a lurker on there (had a deposit down on the FRS before I bought my FRP) so if you don't mind I'll leave the flame suit on the peg and refrain from posting :P There tends to be at least a story a week about how they beat X, Y or Z. In its own way the FRS is a nice enough car, but most of them have it in their mind that it's the fastest thing on the planet... :beat: Not wishing to sound too snooty, but I'm always impressed how this board is always so level headed and aware of the capabilities of other makes and models... Obviously my Speedster is faster than all of your VXs put together though! ;)

the rs guy in question was driving a blue one...it had on the back 270bhp/315lbft....he didnt pass me! i didnt see him on the track when i was there! and i certainly didnt see him on the track when thorney was on it! and yes he was a true boy racer! the day was really good! i had a nice spin in front of everyone! just before the guy in the renault! :o for me i am going to get some lessons on track driving....it was really noticeable watching streeboy and cheeky making very good use of the bends and maintaining speed....i am going to work on my exit speed! my car did me proud....120+mph on the long straight and the same coming upto the bend before the long straight! :D the car i think i was most impressed with was the metro with slicks and a 2l vvc engine in it! Imnotworthy great day :groupjump:

Well I had a great day also. Noticed that in reality, there was nothing between most of the VX's out there (except that bloke with the blue rocket sled). What tended to split most people up when we wenty out together was interference from the boys in their muscle cars (TVRs and 928's in particular). As many have said all over them on the besnds and could even pass them on the short straights and long sweepering bends , but that 1 KM straight just let them barrel by. (1 silver p reg TVR Chimera 500 was particularly irritating...don't blame him for booting it, but it really caused me issues on the corners...every lap I passed him either on the slow hairpin or the long sweeper, only to have him hammer by on the straight). Ian was all over my tail at one point, so I let him by (I honestly thought he was much quicker), but then I could stay on his tail, cheeky was definitely quick on some parts of the circuit, but I could reel him in on others, good fun though. Yes it was me that took out the cone, the way I saw it the GT40 put on his indicator for me to passs, then pulled over as I did so, so GT40 kit car or cone....no contest...and luckily, no damage. Took a young guy who was driving a clio sport out as a passenger....he was mightily impressed, and is looking to buy a VX now. (yes he was in there when the cone incident happened, and he did not say a word!) I saw two RS's, one I think blew it's motor, as I saw it being tended to by the AA. The second was about as quick in a straight line as the VX, but as Ian satated it was easy meat on the corners (can't think why he thought otherwise...though perhaps he passed Streetboy on the straight just after his impressive spin). All in all a splendid day. Chris

So my most and least impressive cars of the day: Most impressive... :D Metro on slicks..the ultimate Q Car Radical..COR! The VX220's (no biase there then) Least Impressive cars... thumbsup BMW M Roadster...slow and cumbersome Honda S2000..easy on the bends, and even passable on the straights Least Impressive Drivers.... :beat: The guy in the yellow Elise, nearly took Rubber out and seemed seriously upset if a VX220 passed him (which plenty did...on one occasion Rubber and I went by him pretty well in tandem) The guy in the Brown 928s...get out of the bloody way! Most annoying part of the day... :9mm: Being blacked flag for a noisy exhaust...I was the only one in the gaggle of VX's with a standard exhaust...talk about fall guy! (It was either Thorney or Minime that should have been flagged)

To be honest I was expecting worse, it was a Redline magazine day so I assumed it would be full of MP muppets all out there with something to prove - I was wrong. Driving was courteous, if sometimes a little wayward - I saw some lines round some of the corners which looked liked kids playing 'join the dots' (and that was just the VX's :P ;) ) There were some quick cars and some quick drivers but only 1 or 2 where both were together at the same time. I caught but couldn't pass one of the Caterhams (ran out of fuel trying  ) and was overtaken by the red GT3 (who was seriously caning it - he was locking it up going into every bend and getting it very sideways coming out to catch me and whlst I stayed with him after I let him buy there was no way I'd have got him back - respect to fantastic car and very capable driver. Other than that no-one came past all day. There were 2 FRS there, one white one which I think was Redlines own car (it seemed to have a pit crew to challenge Williams in size) and was obviously a bit sorted, I never saw him on track but from the sidelines it looked quick (he was running slicks) The blue didn't seem that special but I can't honestly remember seeing him on track or not - he didn't come past that much I do know :) Does Redline mag have its own forum? I'd be interested to see what the rest of people on the day thought.

All of the consumer purchased FRSs are imperial blue (as are the FRPs) so I guess the white one with pit crew must be some rally/race car derivative Focus rather than the dealer special. Straight line to 60 is approx 6.2, so I'd imagine his modded straight line to be similar. Talking of S2000 on track, didn't anyone see Top Gear last week with the S2000 vs Z4 vs something else. Didn't catch what they had to say about them, but would be interested in the verdict if anyone knows. cheers Nick

They all championed their own particular favourites Clarkson: s2000 Shortarse bloke: Z4 Other strange bloke: Boxster They couldn't agree so let the test driver thrash them around the track to decide. Verdict 1st Boxster 2nd Z3 3rd S2000 So the heavy car with the least power of the 3 wins, could be the benefits of mid engine vs front engine?

What a day! I love Bedford. I learn loads every time I go there. Gripes: The Palmersport organisation was toss. There was a lot of discourteous driving by wankers in slower cars. Paul crashed two foot in front of me. And Thorney was a big bloody show off. ;) But aside from that I had a perfect day. Where shall we go next? Silverstone? Donnington?

sorry, missed that. In short, all I've heard is that you get what you pay for and they're not really recommended.
