Funny Caleebra as I'm form the same place as you and I went to Harlaw, we played rugby as did every other school in the whole region. Maybe it's cos I'm very old. They don't teach English and Maths now either though so I'm not surprised. It seems to be a football thing only, this English pride and the associated hatred for the English by the world as we are happy to support England in any other event, cricket, rugby, darts, farting. It's just 19(fukin)6(pissin)6 shut the fcuk up about it, it was 40 years ago. We won the war 60 years ago. England are probably in the top 16 teams in the world for sure maybe even the top 8 but that's it for now. Stop harping back to winning the world cup as everyone knows how much luck was involved. They had a better team comparatively last time round. Still hope England wins the rugby world cup as it's justified even though they lack flair. rant over B)

No flair ? I disagree mon ami ! :D They just have more than ONLY flair like the All Blacks.

Flair wasn't required to get to the final Coolio. Ask the ABs or the French if they wished they'd played an attritional forwards game insead of chucking it about. Sevens-style running and passing is fun to watch but doesn't win games against great defences and counter attackers. If England are comfortable before the end of teh match you'll se some 'flair'. Also if the Wallabies come out chucking the ball about they'll be slaughtered as England are fantatsic defenders and counter attackers. Finally I'm a foreward and I took huge pleasure from the French game - a massive pack domination exercise. Theres NOTHING dull about tactics that win the world cup. NOTHING. :D COME ON ENGLAND !!!!

Oh dear, Oh dear jim,

/NERVE TOUCHED

I would stay away from a rugby club (or change your name :P ) with that sort of comment for a while!

Even at local club rugby level there are very few

fat blokes

about.

Having played Rugby, Soccer, cricket and hockey (west of england standard) I think you have a miss-guided sense of loyalty to the more popular sport.

Each to their own I say but when you see what rugby is doing from "mini" through colts and then to senior teams you cannot say that the development of soccer is anywhere near as organised at grass routes.

Never mind I don't think you would understand.

PB, being Scottish and being well out of the RWC I want to see a good game like the Welsh vs NZ or NZ vs Austrailia. All Scotlands games were good to watch by anyone. Yes I want to see England win, but I want to see a good game full of trys not boring penalty kicks. England are pretty boring to watch but effective. So there may be nothing dull about tactics if your English and tactics win England the world cup but England won't endear themselves to people like me if they win by boring the opposition into defeat. Come on England! but please don't be dull. B)

Callm down lads...only joking! :D Rugby doesn't do it for me (partly because I don't know the rules well enough to really undesrtand it), but I do appreciate that the players are proper athletes, and it's nice to see the national team doing so well. As for youth development, I think the introduction of 7-a-side for kids in football is the start of a huge improvement

I spent most of my secondary school days out in Speyside... the only school in the area that I know of with rugby traditions is Gordonstoun poof

I disagree with your second point mate, I would happily support any team England are playing against in ANY contest... but as I said before, not out of hatred or racism, just for the fact that I'd like to turn on my TV and get a balanced account of things in the sporting world.

Take football focus... 29.5 minutes of the premiership, divisions 1 2 and 3, FA cup 1st round, the LDV vans trophy, the conference, then "And in Scotland today, Rangers take on blah, and Celtic take on blah." This is reproduced on a grand scale accross all sports by sky sports news.

As for youth development, I think the introduction of 7-a-side for kids in football is the start of a huge improvement

Jim - agree with you there. But I think sport in general needs some proper investment and redevelopment at grass roots levels, especially in Scotland. Other countries leave the home nations in the shade.
