In the news report the picture seems to show double white lines end almost where the car is sat....... does that mean that the possibility is that the vx went to overtake when the lines stopped and it was thrown back behind the lines?

The double white lines do come to an end...but are replaced by a single solid line. So the VX driver still should not have been overtaking (if indeed that's what he did)

IIRC having spoken to Ash's Nieces boyfriend on Saturday night, the VX and the peugeot ended up facing the other way after spinning slightly on impact. The VX was driving in the direction the photo was taken, the impact forced the peugeots back end up in the air and around. The VX was overtaking when the double white solid lines became broken on his side. IMHO he was too close to the land rover when he pulled out otherwise he would have seen the peugeot coming the other way or pulling out from the side road further up the road heading towards him.

If the Peugeot was pulling out of the side road then they were at fault, even if the VX was overtaking. When joining another road, you have no right of way at all and you must check the road is clear in both directions before pulling out.

The VX driver was probably a little unwise to be overtaking near an adjoining road, but being unwise is not an usually an endorsable offence.

Edited to add: If the VX had not started overtaking when the Peugeot pulled out, then the VX was at fault.

You're right, this is obviously something the police will consider. thumbsup

Best to wait for the official report.

If we hear anything we'll post up the details.
