Reclaimed all of my old RC cars from my parents loft the other day. Some haven't been run for nearly 20 years. Really got the itch to get some of them running again. This itch seems to come back every few years. Started to rebuild one last night. So what did you have?? Did you used to race them. I did and went back to my old club the other night to watch a meeting. Nothing has changed in about 15 years!! I think my first was a boomerang, over the years collected loads. I still have one that is almost like new condition which is very rare and worth quite a bit today. It's a 1/12th Lambo Countach LP500S 'Competition Special'. Almost forgot i had it. Sorry if i'm rambling, but maybe i'm the only one who gets excited by 'Vintage Tamiya's'?????   :D

ALWAYS WANTED ONE :beat: Ah the memories!! Basically we were too poor!! I had to scrounge a go from a kid down the road who had about 6 or 7 :9mm: After about a minute he'd snatch the controller back :9mm: Flash git who used to thrash them til the (nicam??) batteries were dead, but because he had so many they would be lined up until they'd all been used. God I hated that guy! I ended up getting a RC plane (cessana type) which my old man preceeded to crash beyond all repair :beat: Wouldn't mind a helicopter now, although I hear they're difficult to fly. Andy chinky chinky Whoops. no I never owned one :P (gets coat) Andy chinky chinky

I had a Hornet, marvellous fun. Never raced it properly, but a few of us in school used to set up tracks and race around after school. Also had a 1/12 monster truck, but that was a bit crap. Can't wait until my son is old enough to get into this (only 3 atm) - he'll have to fight me for the controller!

I always wanted tamiya's 'Vanessas Lunchbox', so i bought one last month. LOL

However being used to my Tamiya, Nitro Thunder it feels extremely slow, but hey I knew it would.

Little bit off topic, but for the RC guys. Any of you getting one of the Traxxas VXL (Bandit,Rustler,Stampede)? Well i will be, 70mph and no fueling cant wait. Dont know where to get a 8000mAh 11.1V Lipo pack from do ya?

Anyway check this Rustler VXL

I used to always want a Frog, but like Covert Ops my parents couldn't afford it at the time. :( My wife bought me a Mad Bull a fews ago though, which is great fun. :D Tamiya have now re-released some of the more popular '80's cars, so you can get the frog kit now for about £60'ish!! thumbsup

I had (& it's still in my mum's garage) a Tamiya 'Quick Drive' Shooting Star.

It really was the nuts back then - the only downer being about 15-20 mins of fun with it on 'Fast' mode before you had to charge the batteries again.

I've since got a fancier R/C nitro car, which I haven't used for ages due to not really having anywhere to use or race it. Anyone know of any geeky groups that race nitro cars that I could join up with!?

P.S. I don't suppose there's a market for selling old R/C cars to collectors for an exorbitant profit is there? 8)

I loved RC's - did abit of racing too. I had a Boomerang and a Hornet, i also had a Midnightpumpkin and a Monster beetle for those long grass days [the beetle was killed in a river jump - 2 days old :P ] I remember when all those trendy cars with no names came on the scene, stuff like the TRF501 and Rc8 etc.. They kinda left your Boomers and Hornets behind :( My last one was a Mini coop with slicks - think i still have it somewhere

I've still got my boomerang and monster beetle. I then bought a petrol mardave marauder which was great fun. They're all slightly broken at the moment so you might have spurred me into a bit of renovation :)

:)

You know you want to. :D
Mine are all 'slightly broken' too :D . Well used i like to call it. Except for the lambo
I've seen the re-releases. I'm very tempted by the Hotshot they've just brought out.
Among others - can't remeber them all now, i had a Boomerang, a Fire Dragon, a Monster Beetle, a grasshopper, a touring car type (TA02 chassis i think) and a couple of kyosho and schumacher cars.
Also had nitro 'cox' car that i've never actually run as my dad broke the zip starter for it soon after i had it (about 14 years ago)

MIKE-VX if you search on the net for your local club you might find something. Most clubs race nitro cars. thumbsup

I had the following Tamiya cars, can't remember which ones arrived first :) Clod Buster Chevy S10 BTCC Mondeo (think it was the 94 or 95 season one, blue with big white bit over the door) In the early 90's i got a Kyosho Sandmaster IC Engined buggy. Imnotworthy In first year at uni circa 1998 aged 17 me and my fatmates went down to Beatties in the town centre and we bought some Tamiya Mini coopers. Built them up and raced them about the campus halls of residence. Don't think any of us had real cars at that point, just crappy bikes and bus tickets  A bit old for them by then but happy days. :D I've still got them apart from the Mondeo (it got thrashed to death). :P I had my Sandmaster running for a laugh at the end of last year. Still alot of fun to be had with them now. thumbsup

Still got my Tamiya Vanquish and Optima Laser in the loft, both in several pieces, cost me a fortune in parts when I used to race them back in the school days  .

I have a modern day Tamiya Impreza Turbo (purchased about 4 yrs ago) for the kids to play with. Cost about £90 which I seem to think is much cheaper than they were when I was a kid?
