*holds hand up*

My sister had the Grasshopper, I had a Manta Ray :D

I've still got a Mata Ray in a cupboard at my mum's house

thumbsup I've no idea where mine is now - it may be in my parents garage gathering dust, that's if they haven't given it away :(

I had a rather cumbersome (but somewhat eccentric) RC landrover thingy that had a trailer and speedboat. The landrover was totally poof but the boat was cool in a "no one else seems to have one of these" kind of way. One of my mates had a Hornet, but another mate and his older brother had a couple of petrol powered cars that were proper fast (bearing in mind this was early 80's). They were awesome for performance, but also a handful in terms of maintenance if I recall ... great memories.

Was it two shades of green and white. I had something like this but the boat got busted and could only cruise in one direction in reverse.

In fact the car/4WD/Van thing might of been called a Rancho (i remember that name somehow) well mine was anyway. And yes it was poof

I got fed up with it and drove the Clod buster over it :saw: :flame:

I used to be into R/C cars when was younger, had: Tamiya Manta Ray Schumacher Pro cat Tamiya Tournig Car Schumacher Bosscat (4wd) and a full carbon fibre chassis and suspenion mounts :D Team Associated RC 10. Still got bits in my parents loft! Plus remnants of several R/C planes that came to unfortunate ends. In fact, thinking about it, ive got a lot of radio gear etc in that loft..... may have to salvage it and hit ebay! lol

Another Boomerang owner :D Had a couple of others over the years but can't remember the name. I remember an early IC touring car Mondeo that spent more time trying to be started than being used :beat:

Suffice to say that getting older just allows you to buy the things you wanted as a kid, but they are still no easier to start

Just spotted this thread! I had a Tamiya rally celica (TA-01) Schumacher Cougar Schumacher Cougar II Mardave mini Tamiya Clio williams (FF-01) Tamiya skyline (TT-01) Well I say I had, I still have them all! Bought the latter a couple of years ago, still enjoy making them, but finding some quiet tarmac to pretend I'm 12 again is getting harder. Come to think of it if anyone has a rwd tamiya chassis with a similar wheel base as the FF-01 let me know, I have a project that needs some help :)

Yep, I think you're right - it was called the Rancho. I think it had a strangely high roof line which made me think of it as a kind of pope-mobile! Definitely proper poof

The only R/C in my days was a branch of Christianity. I used to fly control line planes, especially combat fighters. A good combat fight was quite a sight, espceially if the lines crossed and everything crashed or if you cut off your opponent's ribbon too short and took out his tail :P

Well I have finally got back into RC racing after saying that i was going to for ages. (Started around christmas time). Am really enjoying it, it does get addictive :D . Our local club is really good, they have an indoor and outdoor track and the outdoor track is brilliant. Gets used for quite a few national events. Even racing these little things can get expensive though! Bought a Tamiya DT-02 Sand Viper that i usually race - also restored a couple of my really old ones. I found so much of my old stuff - i never actually realised how much i had - or how much some of them are worth now!! :o Won't sell them though. Just buy more instead. An F201 chassis is my latest project! The missus thinks i'm mad!

I had a Tamiya Hornet. The controler would push forward to go forwards but could then go forwards an extra notch for turbo mode. My dad always told me never to use the turbo mode as it used up the batteries too quickly :( . Much like he complains if I ever take my car beyond about 3k rpm now.

I could never afford fresh batteries for it so it used to spend its time crawling round the kitchen at 0.5 mph with barely enough power to steer, running off old batteries I'd scavenged from other things in the house

I remember spending all weekend once building a ramp. I was well excited when I finished and couldn't wait to get some big air. I couldn't persuade my folks to get me new batteries though. The dissapointment of watching the hornet asthmatically make it's way slowly up the ramp and fall off the end onto it's roof was massive :(

 I used to drive my Rc car around the kitchen too, if the house was empty i'd put Fairy liquid on the floor and drift in and out of the stools.. we had re-chargeable batteries so the car lived in the ''turbo'' zone... ah they were the days  Was looking at the HPI baja before crimbo, then lost intrest - has anyone had one?

Awesome topic!! Had a Super Shot and a Monster Beetle... I remember doing a talk on RC cars at my Primary School (year 6!) and doing a bit of 4-wheel drifting around the playground in the Beetle with a 'special' increased voltage (Extra 2.5V) battery pack that i fudged on... Ill never foget that burning rubber smell! Those were the days!!
