I still have my old tamiya thundershot. All tyres are bald, down to 2wd because of missing driveshafts and the suspension/steering is a bit fecked but it's otherwise actually in working order. (last time I checked) Time to get it out again I think!

I only had crappy RC cars back in the day, bar the Tyco fast traxx that was the absolute mutts nuts and SOOOOOOOO rare now. I'd still pay £100 now for a working one though! I got an HPI 1/10th on road nitro car a few eyars ago but I eitehr got whinged at by people as it was noisy or could never find anywhere flat and big enough to run the damn thing, it got royally destroyed at max xhat into a steel bollard lol. I then got an HPI Savage, love every second of it as its still nimble enough on road but off road its a riot. And on Friday last week I got a Lossi Micro desert truck... well worth £50!!!!! great fun indoors and also a really good laugh outdoors too.

Also have the squarer thunderdragon shell for it as bought a broken one for spares once as they looked like the same car underneath.

njc11 - you don't want to sell me your avante do you??!! :o Imnotworthy Imnotworthy Shep, I had a Fire Dragon (which was really a Thunder Dragon with a Fire Dragon shell on it) Just finished restoring it - managed to find a NIB Thunder Dragon shell on ebay - the whole car looks like new now. Never thought it would considering the hard life it's had. It's now sitting proudly in a glass cabinet in our dining room. :) It's crazy to think i used to race it about 20 years ago!

Oooh love my RC cars 1. Baja Bug 2. Frog 3. Tgx with opel body only problem is for years I could only afford one set of RC so I'd be constantly swaping the rc from the baja to the frog latest was the TGX 1/8th I think glo engine recently we (me + 8 yr old and 10 yr old ) have stripped this down for a good clean and rebuild I had a brief go at making an RC hovercraft with bits of an old hair dryer this failed I melted a big hole in my bed room carpet during testing !!!! NJC11 that Sand Rover rocks it was a toss up for me with that or the Baja Bug I had a look on fleabay a while ago there were some up for sale with their original Beaties bags

I think I started with something very similar to that before upgrading to a Kyosho Raider with a Twister motor in it that I got from a mate. I loved it, but so many things broke on it. I remember rebuilding anything that snapped with re-worked Tamiya parts. Ahh, those were the days. :D

So if all us VX owners had these radio controlled cars, did we all pick up driving tips from Knight Rider and the Dukes of Hazzard too? :D

After a bit of rebuilding and a new battery it went for a short run last night! I was surprised how well it goes considering the rust on the silver can!

Managed two laps of the garden before the "A5" part broke :(

I think you'll find it was the Astute that was 'AWESOME'! Still have one of those, but managed to break it the other day. 'Never Give Up' was the Madcap slogan wasn't it?? :D

Shep, that thunder dragon looks in good nick. I'll have to put a pic of mine up, surprising how many people had them really seeing as they were not meant to be that popular at the time. Have a look on Ebay for the A parts, usually a few on there for a couple of quid.

Still no offers from anyone to sell me an Avante?? I need one desperately! B)

Jeez, this thread brings back some memories. I always wanted an Avante but I ended up getting a Manta Ray because I thought it just looked amazing. I'm going to have to go and find it in the loft and get it running again now.

When I was 14 (1994) I had a petrol RC car with this shell on it.

Can't remember the make of the chassis but I remember it cost my Dad a fortune and he had to build it from a kit. The hand controller had to be purchased separate.

Might have been Kyosho but not sure.

Sold it to a mate back in the day for £50  Would like one of those RR BMW RC cars now if im honest.

Ahhh the Thunderdragon. I always wanted one of those, IMO it was the meanest of the 90's Tamiya buggies. When i got my first Tamiya kit I couldn't decide whether to go for a truck/stadium jobby or a buggy. I went for the Chevy S10 in the end. Since posting on this thread already a while ago, i've brought my Kyosho Sandmaster buggy out of retirement. It goes like the clappers, had to go and buy fuel for it though. I can't believe it starts first time, being so old. :groupjump:
