Girls under 5'5" seem to be able to just sit on the sill (perpundicular to the car) and literally just 'plop' in! Its soo cute!

So do 6'1", 15 (and a bit *cough*)stone blokes. Though I don't think anyone's ever described me doing it as 'cute'. Just sit on the black plastic sill cover rather than the body work, then slide backwards.

BTW Tashy suggested using the door frame as support. Avoid using the windscreen surround as pulling on this can crack the windscreen (especially so for heavier male passengers!)

Very important, do not sit on the sill as they are plastic and crack easily, they are expensive for what they are

I wish I'd known this earlier as I've already cracked mine :( I'm torn between glueing it with high speed tape on the reverse, just the tape or buying a new one ..... There seems to be a small gap undeneath so when I renew/repair I may try to pack it in order to aleviate the strain it gets when my fat arse lands on it!

Looking at several thousand £K (around 3-4) to get this replaced at a stealer.

Try a local fibreglass company, or try pushing your luck at a stealer for a warranty repair for a defective part.

I'm 6" 2' To get in go left leg on silver grip thing infront of seat, head all way through until you hit the passenger window then just sit back. Works OK until you have a passenger, just make sure you get in first!

Christ, sounds like I got off lightly this weekend - I had both my parents and my aunty in the car on saturday, every one of whom had a completely different entrance / exit strategy.....sitting on sills, grabbing the top edge of the windscreen, flopping in backwards like they were scuba diving......

Sounds as though unless I can learn to slide in 'T1000 liquid metal styley' it's only a matter of time before I break something......

Remove the roof which will allow you to lower yourself into the seat in a dignified manner, then have your Butler re-fit the roof before driving off.......easy. :)

I should have said that it's the black trim piece I've cracked and not the sill itself  Still, at £100 for a new one, I think I'll just repair the one on there!

I am 6'1 and 16 st plus and I can get in and out really easy. It has taken some time and some mild embaressments but I have perfected it I think. My top tips are.. Getting in: The 'Crouch and Flop' - Left foot in first onto the carpet/footwell. With your right foot firmly on the pavement/roadside swivel your body so that you are facing directly away from the car with your left foot still in the footwell. Allow your left foot to twist as well or you will hurt yourself, and then 'crouch and flop' yourself in backwards. Getting out: The 'Hitch and Hoist' - Seat moved all the way back. Raise right foot/leg out onto the sill cover as far as comfortably possible. Then the crucial manoevre is to hitch your left foot up as close as possible to your backside. Get it up as close to the seat edge as possible, and the use it to hoist yourself out of the car - easy! I have never tried it but I reckon I could get out of the car without using my hands :)

And pushing the seat all the way back before getting in or out helps.
chinky chinky

:yeahthat: The best bit of advice IMO, it makes a world of difference doing this each time and you'll soon get the hang of it.

Hay,

Thanks for the tips. I guess I will have to find the best method with loads of pratice.

I have just be quoted 3200 in insurance on confused.com. As being so young and only 1 year driving experience is there anyway to get this down?

OMFG How old are you?!??!!?!

unlucky

oh and take it easy in the turbo. they can bite.

Relating to my above comment, at your age and experience level (not a critisism by the way), be very careful it will bite if you give it a little too much, far more than an MG ever could. Spend alot of time getting used to the car, alot of very experienced owners on here have lost it at some point.

But mainly, ejoy.

PS Did you find your soft top?
PSS What do you think of it so far after the drive home (hope it wasn't too wet).

I use the "leg in, twist, crouch and flop" method as above. Works very well, and makes getting in very fluid, additionally you don't have to lean on, or put any weight on anything. Getting out, I drape right leg over sill (not putting any weight on it), then put right forearm on top of seat shoulder bolster thingy, and push down on left leg & right forearm, using forearm on seat as a pivot to get out. Agian this means no sills or windscreen have any stress put on them. thumbsup

also it helps if you keep the black part of the sill really well polished, back to black works well, makes it super shiney and slidey thus keeping weight on it to a minimum your in your seat quicker than a blink of an eye thumbsup
