I have been looking around for a cheap VX for a while now and came across this....

>clicky<

Looked too good to be true. A quick search on here, the wikipedia of vx's, and sure enough it used to be owned by TurboTomato and then JimBob. JimBob ended up ebay'ing her off in the end. I still was very suspicious, then i found...

>clicky<

Looks like I was right to be suspicious. I had already sent a message via Gumtree, and I had now received a response. Its phrased very poorly, they are already asking about bank transfers, and its from a hotmail account.

My verdict, to steer well clear!! Posting this up to hopefully save some other people out there some time, and also if TT, JimBob etc. know the current owner, and they are not selling the car, then someone may be using pictures of the car for their scam.

What do you guys think??

Could be a genuine opportunity for a silly priced car. Surely no one would ever do a bank transfer without somekind of security even at a sensible price.

I'd get the cash and email saying lets meet for a cash sale!

I thought I would email them to see if I get a reply......this is Mr. G.Jones reply:-

Hello and thanks for your interest, The price for my car is £5.500. As you've probably already seen on my auction I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible. The car is located in Berlin Germany and will be sent to you from here and destination charges are included in the final price of the car. Few words about the car: it is in perfect condition, there's not even a scratch or any dents on it. Everything from the motor to the tires and mirrors is shining and looking brand new. I have a clear title for it, no liens or loans. I will only conclude the transaction through eBay for our own protection. I have been a certified member of eBay since 2003 and I have a £20.000 warranty on my eBay account. They act as a neutral third party so we are protected as far as money is concerned. If you are still interested please get back to me a.s.a.p and if you have any questions about eBay services and the way they do business and handle transactions, I will be more than happy to explain. Looking forward.....

My Brother has come across one of these scams on Pistonheads whilst looking for a Mini Cooper S. The seller always has a 'neutral' 3rd party who can handle the cash!
They always seem to be based oversees. Often with the armed services.

This is his one:

Hi,

The car is located in Lugo. I bought the car from NAAFI. I offer two payment options, one with eBay acting as third party, I have an eBay feedback of over 100 and I have access to eBay Vehicle Protection Program. If we use eBay, you will have to send the payment to an eBay agent bank account by bank transfer. The money will be held in the account until you receive the car back in the UK. I feel very confident that you will keep the car, because it is in excellent condition, in this case, eBay will send me your payment. If you decide not to keep the car (the most unlikely scenario) eBay will return your payment to your bank account.
The other payment method is to have the spanish shipping company where my car is atm to act as third party. They also accept bank transfers as payment.I will pay for the delivery.

Regards

Chris

Hello,

Thank you for contacting me about the 2007 Mini Cooper S Turbo
with 4531 miles.

About the car : The car is in perfect conditions ,no flaws or
dents, no scratches or any kind of damage,no engine problems. The
interior is in like new condition and has never been smoked in.
The car is still UK registered so you will not have to pay any
custom taxes.

The problem is that I had to move with my family in Spain where I
got a new job transfer. I brought the car here with me with the
intention of driving it but when I found out about the very high
import duties and all the restrictions regarding registration and
emissions tests here I've changed my mind and I've decided to sell
the vehicle. There is also the Right Hand Drive problem, I find it
very difficult to drive a RHD car here.I want to sell it in UK
because is still registered there. VRM number is MF07ZGJ.

The amount you will have to pay in order to own this vehicle is
£10,600 and I will pay for the delivery fees to your location! I
want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100%
legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be managed by a
third party, in this way both of us will be protected.

So if you really want it please email me as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Christopher McCusker

Can't believe that people actually fall for this stuff

Brilliant my brother has just got this email back after emailing the scammer again:

Hi,

I can´t call you because I am deaf, I have some degree of speaking ability but I am totally deaf. Please send your questions by email. I am not hard of hearing, I am deaf. I use to have a ScreenPhone back in the UK, but don´t have one here.

Regards

Chris

I replied to his email (above) his grammar is alot better. I am not intersted in buying the car. I did ask in my reply for a contact number to ring him (twice) and he has ignored that question.

Hello,
Here you have some additional pics of the car. And I will accept your offer of only £ 5200
If we decide to proceed with this transaction, I will have to contact eBay and provide them all the necessary information, so they can start the process right away. I will need your full name and address for that. You will receive a notification from eBay shortly after that, together with all the instructions to follow and the invoice as well.
Regarding the payment, you will be instructed to deposit the money to an eBay account. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition. That is how their buyer protection policy works. As far as the seller concerns, I will be glad to know that eBay has the possession of the money during the delivery period. That is my insurance.
As soon as I will have the confirmation from eBay that the funds have been deposited into their account, I will immediately start the shipping process.
The car will be delivered to your address in no more than 3 working days. You will be given a 5 days inspection period from the day you receive the car at home. If you decide to hold the car, then you will have to authorize eBay to release the funds to me, and the transaction will be completed. If you will not be satisfied with the car, you will be able to send the car back through the same shipping company, and ask eBay to return the funds to you.
Though I am sure you will love the car and will not want to return it, it is good to know that you do have this second option available. If you wish to proceed with the purchase, please provide me your full name and address so I can initiate the deal through eBay right away.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
check the last photo, different ground, not tarmac like other pics. May have got them off other sites?....cant be genuine surely?

Took his time replying.

My email :-)

Thats great, car looks spot on. Sure I will be happy with it!

IS a bank transfer OK as my bank offer a better level of security. If so let me know how it is best done and will get the money transfered ASAP. I would need a receipt also, via email is fine!

Thanks again

His reply

Hello
First of all sorry I didn’t answer I’ve been really busy with some business in France. You will send the money to a banking account so we are both safe. This way we should have no problems. I just need your name and address to start the transaction and also to know where to send the car. Remember that your money will be held by eBay until you receive the car and inspect it. As soon as I have your name and address we can start the transaction.

---------------------
I will reply, see what we get!!
