omebody ask him for his bank details and lets have some fun.

Took his time replying.

My email :-)

Thats great, car looks spot on. Sure I will be happy with it!

IS a bank transfer OK as my bank offer a better level of security. If so let me know how it is best done and will get the money transfered ASAP. I would need a receipt also, via email is fine!

Thanks again

His reply

Hello
First of all sorry I didn’t answer I’ve been really busy with some business in France. You will send the money to a banking account so we are both safe. This way we should have no problems. I just need your name and address to start the transaction and also to know where to send the car. Remember that your money will be held by eBay until you receive the car and inspect it. As soon as I have your name and address we can start the transaction.

---------------------
I will reply, see what we get!!

Tell him you are travelling and want to collect the car and drive it home, can you please give me an address to come and collect the car.

Well here it is.... my emails As far as I am aware eBay dont do any sort of 3rd party cash handling? I may be wrong? I thought Paypal did all that? Is a normal bank transfer possible? Like I said before my bank insure any transaction they make on my behalf. I would need your bank's address and details for this to be possible. I will also need a reciept via email for the payment. I am suprised you havent managed to sell the car by now, it is very clean and sought after. I can give you my name and address with the transactions completion. Regards Then follwed by this (by me) If I could sort insurance out, would collection be possible and pay cash sterling or Euro's. The Girlfriend wanted a week away somewhere in Europe. This would be perfect oppertunity. Thanks again His reply's Hello, I am glad you are interested in the car, the car should have been sold a long time ago but I was away on business and I just got back home. This is the info you requested. Jones George Kuerfuerstendamm 321, D-10719 Berlin, I know that eBay is using pay pal but my account is blocked as I am going trough e divorce with my wife and until the trial is over I am not allowed to use any bank accounts or the pay pal account. I don’t want the car to go to my wife and this is why I am selling it so cheap. You will have to send the money to an eBay account that they will set up and I will ask that they make sure everything is secure, this is why I need your name and address so start the transaction trough eBay and to book a place at the shipping company. I am waiting for your name and address so we can get this rolling. Thank you THEN I am a very busy man and this is why I have chosen to sell the car over the internet as I cannot stay at home to wait for potential clients. If you want this car we can close the deal trough eBay. Just remember that your money will be held by eBay until you receive the car and inspect it. You can then register the car in your name and tell eBay that the car is ok and I will then get the money. I am waiting for a reply. _________________________________ I get the opinion he is getting annoyed....My questions and concerns are legitimate :P ANYONE WANNA GO HALVES HA HA :groupjump:

Ask him to send you a current picture of the car with todays paper to prove he has the car?

Brilliant my brother has just got this email back after emailing the scammer again:

Hi,

I can´t call you because I am deaf, I have some degree of speaking ability but I am totally deaf. Please send your questions by email. I am not hard of hearing, I am deaf. I use to have a ScreenPhone back in the UK, but don´t have one here.

Regards

Chris

Hilarious...

I burst out laughing reading that at work earlier

With this other chap with whom Matty is communicating, is the deal that he would give you details of his bank account claiming that it is an ebay one and the money is safely held by ebay? Sorry to sound stupid, but I'm a bit too honest and naive when it comes to scams

IIRC Jimbob sold the car via EBay last July time. The car then appeared on Pistonheads only two or three months later with a location down south. Two weeks ago the car is sold again on EBay this time seller is in Tyne & Wear. I wonder if scammers have borrowed the identity and the current owner is in complete ignorance of what is now going on? Hope Jimbob and TurboTomato aren't following this thread and the fate of their pampered VX

Ok, I'm now really confused - and probably very stupid. I clicked on the links in the OP - and they take me to a page of ads on Gumtree. I can't see one for a VX. The seller is whittering on about ebay. Did the ad on Gumtree refer you to an ebay listing?

I think the ad has been removed as I reported it to Gumtree as a fraudulent ad.

There was no mention in the ad of making it an eBay transaction from what I can remember, only after I showed alot of interest has this cropped up. He isnt wanting to list it on eBay, he is trying to convince me eBay handle the cash as a third party and only releases the funds to him once I am happy with the car. As we know eBay dont do any kind of money handling this is all done by Paypal who themselves dont hold the funds only transfer. Or so I believe.

Just found this. That is indeed my old car, and as has been established it is a scam for sure. As Ryggwelter says, I sold it to jimbob who kept it quite a while, he then sold it to someone down in the SE but within a few weeks it was for sale again. Didn't keep up with its fate after that.

I should be able to confirm the location of the car in the next couple of days. (a couple of miles away from me) A friend at work told me his neighbour brought the car a month or so ago. (and has seen it on the neighbours drive) I will see if I can check if his neighbour knows what is going on.

Just got two replys. I can't believe how good they are. I believe if someone who was interested in this car and was trying to find out if it was a scam or not then I feel this would cure peoples doubts, "IF" he had got the car details right.....he claims he is selling a 2007 model now!!! :beat:

Hope this works

Just got this from my friend Mr.G.Jones EBay wrote back and confirmed that they sent all the details you need to your email address. I just wanted to know if you got any of that. The car is ready to be shipped but not before I have a confirmation form eBay that you have wired the money. _________________________ I wont be replying so this is it, its been fun :poke: :drink:

I made the last preparations and everything is ready, I can send the car right away as soon as eBay confirms that you wired the money to them and that everything is alright. As soon as I get that message form them I will send the car to your address. Thank you _______________ I think he may be getting frustrated  Edit:-I dont know how to get the PDF file above to work, I can view it by logging in??!!

He is really stupid Kuerfuerstendamm 321, D-10719 Berlin is the equivalent of The Mall or Regent Street. I am sure people do live there, but a decent fraudster would pick somewhere less obvious.

Great piece of detective work people! You should set up a VX fraud squad  You've gotta be really desperate to get your hands on a VX if you're willing to buy one without even seeing it first!

I couldnt resist: His email: I can’t believe what im reading. How can this be a fraud? I have been using eBay since 2005 and I have over 50 successful transactions. I will contact them immediately to tell them all about this. I still can’t believe it though. I want to see what you got from eBay. Get back to me ASAP. Thank you My response: Its a £14,000 car and you are trying to sell it for £5,500. In the original advert it was listed as a 2003 model and then you send me the eBay information stating it was a 2007 model. Why is it listed so cheap if not a scam? Ebay DO NOT handle any money for ANY third parties. This is all done by Paypal who themselves DO NOT hold funds, they ONLY transfer them. Can you prove that you have the car and have not took/stole some photos from somewhere else? Take a photo of the car with todays paper next to it, so I can see the date.
