I wondered if there are any major benefits from fittin a different exhaust manifold to replace the cast one. Any performance gains? What ones are there? i have been looking at US ebay and there seem to be loads but i have no idea as to what will fit the vx

the standard z22se cast manifold is restrictive  the tms 4-1 will give about 10 bhp more power = £1k the weaponR 4-2-1 also gains 10 bhp or so = £250 + welding the dbilas cast 4-1 gives about a 5 bhp gain = £300 I personally prefer the 4-2-1 type manifolds as power is spread across the range, but some prefer the 4-1 style which tend to give max power at the top end I'm sure that argument (which is better 4-2-1 or 4-1) has been discussed many, many times in the past

How much modification is required for the weponR? do you know if any one of the ones on US ebay willl fit?

the pacesetter manifolds WONT fit as they dont go through 90degrees of turning, they go through something like 60degrees, meaning the downpipe would want to venture through the boot lol.

none of the usa manifolds bolt straight on, they all require some rework

the weaponR 4-2-1 requires the 2-1 section completely reworking, but is the most popular aftermarket manifold fitted to the vx220, although the dbilas may well take over that title due to the fact it's cheap on ebay.de

the tms 4-1 is a work of art and gives good gains, but the cost puts many off

How much re-work is required and does this mean removing sections of the clam?? Is the dbilas worth it though? Is there much weight saving with a different manifold

the TMS looks great but i would rather not spend that sort of money on it

yes the weaponR requires a hole to be cut in the clam boot, if you want the best then sometimes a sacrifice has to be made :poke: the 2-1 section is basically remade, just the flanges are reused, have a search for weaponR and I'm sure you can find the pics in this section thumbsup the dbilas weighs a fair bit, so no weight saved there the people who have bought the tms 4-1 seem to be happy with it

I have a regal SS 4-1 and it works a treat. The original cast item weighs a ton and makes a great door stopper.

The regal one looked great - £400ish IIRC? - not sure they do them any more though... I've got the Weapon-R too. I spent maybe £350 all together, including welding supplies (not the welder), but for that I got a 200 cell cat, and 2.5" all the way through to the back box (which was a standard one that I cut open and derestricted). It's awesome - it goes so much better than standard now, and sounds ridiculous. God knows what it would have cost to get a whole new TMS/Milltek system through to the back box. Cutting the boot sounds scary, but I've never regretted it, and it doesn't remove that much space from the boot. If you do it right, you can do the whole job without removing the clam (I did), and the hole provides good access if you ever want to fiddle with other bits of the car. It was a reasonable amount of work though... Paying for it to be done would well over double the cost I imagine. It was a fun project though - and nothing beats driving around thinking 'I did that' :)

How much intrest would there be for the weapon-r 2-1 section as i will be tacking mine together towards the end of july, then my boss will tig weld it for me. Maybe i ask him if he'd be intrested/get a price to do a few  .

I've just bought a weaponR version, I'd be interested to hear what cost would be involved making the 2-1 section would be. I'm planning on getting my father in law to knock something uop as he has been a welder for 30 years.

I have one sitting in the garage so might be interested even if I won't use it (already in sale here in FR)

Are we talking about supplying completed manifolds or just a welding service? That is, who will supply the weaponR and other materials needed?

So is the regal ss exhaust manifold any good? what power gain does it give? how does it compare to all the rest?
