Have to admit I'm partial to the juice of the grape.

The most memorable: Rochu du Purkar 1963, which was extracted from the vaults of the Kremlin when Gorbachev took power. It was made by Russian peasants for the Kremlin bigwigs when Khruschev was Soviet Premier and JFK was US President. Handwritten Russian labels and tiny homemade corks. No quality control so some bottles were awful but the good ones were truly fabulous.

Techieboy, I've got one bottle left if you fancy a glass. thumbsup

good enjoy it your welcome ;)

chateau de la grille

Ooh, I've been there and tasted the wine (and bought lots of it). Beautiful estate, fantastic wine.

Fab, do you know Couly Dutheil in Chinon? Some stunning wines.

thumbsup Warning: no quality control, so it could be 45-year old Russian paint stripper. Like what their female weight lifters put in their cornflakes. Or under their arms. Or both.

:yeahthat: May need a taxi service though. :drink: :borg:

I can NOT recommend the "Leather Bottle" in that neck of the woods.... weird hotel with nice racist "golly" pictures on the walls etc lol. Simon, rusky paint stripper or not, its got to be worth going blind for, drinking something nearly 30 years older than me

Ah, much better.

I could bring it to the low-cost 5-star hostelry that Framauro is researching right now.

I'm a big fan of Chapoutier. Especially the small volume ones you can only get at the vineyard.

Fab, Just ignore them. They're being rude and taking the Michelle or maybe the Mikhail. Maybe just maybe they will dare to do the same to me after this. Any french wine so long its being served on a very warm evening somewhere in the countryside and the chef is on form the wine will taste immeasureably better than when you get it home to wet dreary Cheam or Kent. Personally I tasted some of the best in France - in St Emilion in the caves about 30 years ago(of course I can't remember the label after 30 years!) and on the nearby Cotes Sauvage. One of the best was in Les Trois Limousins in Rue de Berry in Paris, sadly I think its no longer there. I also vividly remember a vin maceration near a little village called Albas in southern France in the heart of the area that produces Corbieres, Fitou and Blanquette de Limous.

when we were on holiday in Languedoc we drank some fabulous vin de pays, but the wines you see here from that region are never as good... I assume the good stuff stays in France, or maybe as you said the sunshine alters the experience...

one of my prefered 'crus' (red, bordeaux) at the moment is a graves. Lovely grape, great nose, strong tannin but that goes with food.

Chateau Kirwan it was a 96 or a 97 , cant remember but it was lovely :drink: I was recommended this at Château De Fère or Château d'Isenbourg in France, i can't remember but both of the hotels come highly recommended thumbsup Its funny because I liked the wine so much that when I was staying at the Balmoral in Edinburgh they had a later vintage of this which was £100 and I thought I would give it a go and I was disappointed, especially as it only cost around £45 in France from what I remember :)
