Hi, I have a standard 2.2 NA looking to upgrade options are Courtenay's supercharger or turbo engine upgrades, the car is a 2001 with 54,000 miles would it be worth the extra money or sell the car and buy a turbo. Thanks for any advice.
try a turbo first and see if you like it

ps if money is no object so supercharge it but don't forget you will loose some of the money if you sell it one day

n/a supercharge and keep it

You could start small though and go with on the na engine first or maybe the vag 1.8t conversion

I'm sure if you took the car over to Bernard Scouse (AutoTeknix) he'd be more than happy to have a go at getting the 1.8t into the back of a VX. Can't be that much harder than doing it to an Elise, just takes £15K+ to do it.

Quite. It'll be interesting to see how NickB777 gets on, with his new Harrop TVS supercharger (when he finally gets a chance to have it fitted). Probably wouldn't massively increase the price of a SC conversion from scratch and you could do a lot of internal strengthening/lightening/balancing and buy quite a few sizes of smaller pulley for the £10k surplus.BarginI'm sure if you took the car over to Bernard Scouse (AutoTeknix) he'd be more than happy to have a go at getting the 1.8t into the back of a VX. How about just spending a few K's on the 2.2. Where would that get you?

Depends on how you spend it, if your DIY then a couple of K will get you along way if your paying Labour then not very far.

you can build all you want but unless you can find someone to remap it or a standalone that does FBW then it'll be useless.

It's got me to the mid 180's and a couple of others to 190'ish.
Given the ability to start again from scratch, I'd have just gone for the SC conversion. It seems to be the most cost effective big number increase. Will be really interesting to see how Muncher's work with Courtenays on a self-fit SC kit pans out. No idea what that will do to the cost of the conversion if/when it's finalised but will surely bring it down to under £4k.
