Ah - I see. Looks like a new end piece for my harness plus the MSAR kit then. Would this help with converting the end of my belt? The MSAR kit details are a bit sparse for people like me ;)

I've emailed MSAR. In the meantime, more looking at the Willan's site has made me realise that my harness is a single seater harness. Clicky - you will see the picture (middle strap option) matches my harness exactly. The blurb says:

* Suitable for Single Seater and GT Cars with appropriate mountings.
* Six strap body harness with six vehicle attachment points using 5/16” (8mm) diameter bolt fixings for all mountings.
* All straps fully adjustable, 3" (75mm) shoulder straps use Willans own anti-creep adjuster, 2" (50mm) lap straps and crutch straps use double steel attachment lugs to give pinch plate spanner adjustment for control of wearer straps.

(Bold bits by me)

I am realising now that both attachment lugs should be on the car and that adjustment is not by the normal method but by pinch plate spanner adjustment - whatever that is!

When I bought the harness bar, the straps cost so little they were almost free - I am wondering if I should just junk/fleabay them and buy a more appropriate harness?

Ok then but don't tell SWMBO - I told her that the Milltek was the last thing I was buying apart from some black vinyl and grey alcantara ;)

Here is the reply from MSAR for those who are interested. I asked about combining the kit with the new lugs with the Sector 111 kit.

The brackets for the lap belts on an Elise or VX have unique brackets that are different to anything else.

The hole in an 01327 is not the right size to use with the S111 kit and in any event I am not sure that your Willans harness has a bracket that can be unwrapped. Simply put this will not work.

The only solution we would recommend is a correct 4 point harness .. Either push button or race buckle

Both of which work with the Sector 111 kit.

I am sure that you could find a way to assemble various components and get a harness installed but I could not recommend that course of action.

I strongly recommend that you do NOT weld anything to the OEM subframe on a road legal vehicle.

I hope this helps.

That's me told then!

I can't get the Schroth ones linked to because I need bolt in top straps. Any suggestions?

 indeed! Before giving up completely, I spoke to Willans and they are going to quote me to take the whole harness, check it and replace the lap straps with a more conventional set. I have a feeling it will work out more money than a new Sabelt/Luke from Hangar 111 but would like to check as the harness quality appears top notch. Otherwise probably a black Sabelt bolt in job. Then we come to the thorny (no pun ...) issue of how to attach the lap belts. I'm torn between sharing the standard seatbelt mount & the Reverie kit. Eye bolts in the floor are just about in the running.

Eyebolts in the floor sounds a bit extreme!

Jen from MSAR kindly got me a pair of these in case I go double shear (will depend on the seat I end up with!)

To replace the standard ones:

I've tried two Loti garages tho, and they don't want to sell the lower bolts individually

Tell me .... does 'double shear' just mean the bolt goes through two holes that are separated? Been too embarrassed to ask ;) Are those the Reverie adapters you got from MSAR? Do they just bolt onto the standard subframe? Finally, does the harness attach to the top of the triangular bit? 4 questions, 1 post ... will stop there

Yep, they are the Reverie ones - only part of the £53 kit, as with a four point harness like the schroth there is no need for the cross brace to attach the anti-sub strap to :) These plates replace the triangular bracket you can see in the pic of my standard seat thumbsup having double shear means that you need a longer than standard bolt, hence trying to get one from Loti The double shear refers to the two plates, hence the bolt is held in place at two points rather than one on the standard set-up, effectively doubling the strengh The harnesses are then slipped over the bolt that passes through the two plates and into the captive nut inside the seat, so it isn't the top of the triangular bit, it's the holes on the right hand side of the pic above I don't think they are a straight swap, may need to re-drill the mounting holes in the bottom, not sure yet tho :)

You know, I finally understand all this shear and subframe stuff now - thanks thumbsup :) Willans emailed today. With postage and VAT, it will cost £75 to adapt my harness. This wil involve checking everything on it is OK, binning the lap straps and replacing them with some with a proper VX220 type bolt in bottom and conventional adjuster - I decided 'pull up to tighten' would be easier than the 'pull down' ones I often see. £75 is less than a new harness and this Willans one seems good quality. The 3" shoulder straps with quick release 'pull down' adjusters are superb. I'm also still chuffed with the Tollbar Racing bar - the way it recesses so the seat belts are almost at the original angle and the seat can go almost full back - excellent! All coming together now ... chinky chinky

I'd still go with the Schroth for the sake of an extra £40 thumbsup :)

I don't have seat cut outs and the Schroth are wrap fit only if I'm not mistaken ... Maybe the seats will be done in the far flung future but not yet ...

Just to add I've continued to hunt round and my choices are Luke, Sabelt and Willan's for bolt in jobs.

I just checked with MSAR and I can fit Schroth as a bolt in - just need the bolt in kit. You un-thread the 3 bar slide on the harness, pass it through the bracket in the kit (with a kink in fold that reduces 3" to 2") and then into the 3 bar slide in the usual way. Details on p53 of the Harness User Guide (4.8MB pdf)

Lap belts, as detailed earlier, can fit with OEM seatbelts using the Sector 111 kit. I would be using the supplied bolt in the driver's outboard side ... not quite the way the instructions say.

For double shear I would need either the Reverie kit ideally.

Slots will go in one day when I decide what to do with my seats.

(I know everybody is bored with this thread now but hope the info and links will be of use to somebody who searches one day )
