OK then, are we saying then that it is ok to jack the car up, then lower it onto ONE axle stand at the front, then jack the other side up, and lower onto a second axle stand....?

Does this method require the undertrays off to access the front jacking point?

best way i found to do this was to jack up one side and using three bricks place these under the jacking points with a peice of wood to protect underside and same on rear jacking point then do the same on other side with bricks at front and rear and all done easily. saves buying axle stands for all four corners and not having to lift car so heigh to work on.

I jacked the entire front up on one jack. The front of the tub where the crashbox bonds on is a major bit of metal! Just put a plank across this, jack in the centre, put axle stands under the sides (on the same plank), then remove the jack. Just needs one jack, easy to do, no twisting etc. (no prepares for flaming)

Quite in ingenious idea actually to laterally bridge the front jacking points, thus negating the need for a second jack.

How did you get the car high enough to get it all under the car though...? Did you jack it up first

Probably more than yours!
Still, its had 5 years to degrade since it was last measured.

It was probably up on 4 blocks when I did this. Thats my easy way of crawling under.

Yeah, that's what I do. It does get a bit wobbly if you stand on the back corners of the tub though, since the front stands are so close together.

thumbsup thumbsup
Exactly what I did, although not on a plank but some really heavy duty timber (5"x3" or similar). Just drove mine up on to my home made ramps to get enough clearance to get the jack far enough under the front of the car.

I need to lift the front of the car for access. How do I do it? I appreciate the approach angle is an issue but would ramps do the job?

normal car ramps will probably damage the front clam, you need very shallow ramps to get some clearance so the jack can fit underneath. I personally just jack from the side, the front of a vx is so light and the chassis so strong thats all you need to do  ps: I chopped the front off Theo's old vx chassis, believe me it's damn solid and stronger than most cars I've seen
