Love my NA, but getting a bit tired of the slightly lazy / asthmatic lump in the back. Had a lift in a couple of Honda Elises (NA & Supercharged...) and Holy C___ they are quick!! Mainly do trackdays, so want revs revs revs. Spent too much on mine to sell it really, but considering it now... Has anyone in the UK VX community actually gone the whole hog, and built up strong a High-Revving NA engine? Would love to hear of any success stories. I currently have an AMD Stage II on mine, and makes 159bhp. (Full Milltek & Viper) Have seen a red NA on PH with standard engine / 2.4manifold & ITG induction claiming 179bhp. Is this really possible?? And at what revs?? Would love an easy extra 20bhp!!!!!! Ultimately would love to build up an NA engine from scratch, so it could rev safely to 7500. Am considering the Courtenay Supercharger of course, but just think the basic engine should be improved first! How far along is the Thorney Stage IV??? Those throttle bodies do sound the business. Please let me know if you have done to your NA's, and any advice for low-tech and/or high tech solutions. Thanks. WZ

You're in excactly the same position as I am, I only use the car on track and its v quick through the corners so I'm catching up more powerful cars who then move over on the straight but I cant get past :angry2: Was due to have stage 2 supercharger conversion done at Courtenays tomorrow but they cant get the manifold and even though I have now sourced a manifold myself they have booked work into my space and cant do it for 6 weeks or so. I am now considering Thorney stage 5, will be calling them tomorrow to find out how soon they can do it.

I hear there is already such an engine in a vx220 Imnotworthy apparently it has a 7900rpm limiter on a high compression engine with webcon throttle bodies, running between 220 and 240 bhp depending which rolling road you believe ;)

Ooooh. Sorry to hear that. Must be disappointing to say the least!

Is there a parts supply problem with Courtenay Supercharger bits???

Is it a member on here?

Do you know who built-up the engine?

Sounds good!!

The 2.4 manifold gives exactly the characteristic you are after - the rev limiter is a limiter rather than an irrelevance! Add one plus ported TB etc. and a remap and you should get north of 160bhp with decent torque and a lovely top end. You will enjoy driving it more. However, if you really want some punch up the straights then I think a charger is the best way to go for bhp/£.

How would an engine like Vocky's compare to a "stage 2" (or around the same peak power) S/C'd car on a track?
The peak power would obviously be the same, the n/a engine would produce it at higher revs, would that be a good or bad thing in terms of track driving?
I can also only imagine that the mid-range power/torque would be stronger for a S/C'd engine. As for bhp/£, I can't think there is a lot in it if you do it yourself. But once up to that spec with the S/C then more power can be had for a little more out-lay, where as the n/a would be at its limits (I think :lol: )

Imo S/C would be the way to go; obviously it comes down to personal preference, driving style, and what you want out of the car, so everyone will have their different views, which is exactly what makes life great :D

Sorry to hear about the problem with the manifold, I would wait though it is well worth it believe me. I love the TB for noise but must admit prefer my S/C

I think I would prefer the sc as well, I was trying to get this done for a trip to The Ring and Spa on 29/30th June and thought I had it all planned out!! I dont want to go TB just because I might get it done before the 29th and then regret it when I get back. Decisions, decisions.

if you like na power then I would advise the following parts;

eagle steel rods
z22yh 11:1 cr pistons
balancer delete
lightened flywheel
under drive crank pulley
CompCams stage 3 na cams
ported head
webcon throttle bodies - remapped by northampton motorsport
piper 4-1 exhaust manifold
piper 2.5" system inc sports cat

if you want sc power then I would advise these parts;

GM sc and inlet manifold
Courtenay DIY sc kit
pro-alloy chargecooler
Courtenay remap
piper 4-1 exhaust manifold
piper 2.5" system inc sports cat

At the moment I'm irritated with my car (which I only use on track) as I can go faster than most around the corners but it is dog slow on the straights and most of what I've got past comes steaming past me again. I want a car with about 200-220bhp, that will do me. At present I've got TMS pp2 158bhp. The problem is I'm trying to get it all done by the 29th but thats looking a no go now. I've got a Miltek with a 200 cat and would prefer to keep that, would the Piper not be too loud.

get the piper manifold and cat but not the backbox at the moment! a little birdie told me that another company (not tms) might be entering the scene of superchargers that dont need the rare inlet manifold but sadly dont think it will be ready by the 29th!

the milltek will be fine, just replace the exhaust manifold when the standard one cracks thumbsup

The courtenay sc will deliver the power you want, you just need to be patient :grouphug:

Got La Croix and another Ring trip booked for the autumn so I will, as you sensibly suggest, be patient.
