Don't worry about the silly money / age comments.... I am just happy you are taking an interest in a Lotus built British sports car. (With a GM engine designed in part by Lotus, I am told, i.e. the 2.2 na..) Tesla should be easy to get hold of, same car , sort of... But a tad dear. $$$$$$$$$$ Get down your local Lotus dealer and see if they will lend you a Lotus Europa / Elise of some thing...LOL...

I'd say Lotus Europa is your best bet. It has exactly the same engine and chassis so there can't be much difference internally.

Uh, as much as I would love a Lotus, I can't afford that kind of money either. That's my main reason for going for this car/Opel Speedster, not to mention I like this car better than the Elise/everythingelse anyway.

The Europa is as close to a VX Turbo as you can get. And the Turbo is simply a different engine in the near identical car compared to a 2.2

But, apart from the Federal Elise and Exige I don't think you can get the Europa in the states due to the engine (Turbo). But, as already detailed, the Z22se 2.2 engine is in wide use in the states already.

Good luck thumbsup

Whilst the VX220 Turbo is identical to the Lotus Europa, the Europa is not available in the USA so its probably not worth wasting your time down that avenuex.

I find it strange that the American's are strict with regards imports yet when you see what they are allowed to drive around in when bought in America on shows such as pimp my ride and some of those cop shows, they have little to say. I was watching the new series of American Chopper the other day regarding their venture into the European market and they were talking about the strict vehicle regulations Europe have compared to America yet they won't let you (Nicane) import a VX and convert it to left hand drive but someone in a chevvy with 1 working door, no headlights, 3 wheels and a dustbin lid for a steering wheel can motor around the US because he bought it there  Craziness rant Unless i've misread the reasoning as to why you can't import - surely it can't be emissions as the USA is the worst culpret with their gas guzzler's!

I'm sure someone on here the other day said it was impossible to import a VX or VXT into the US, it just can't be done.

Haha, yeah I re-read all of this today and I realized that's what he meant. Thanks for clarifying. :)

I'm sure someone on here the other day said it was impossible to import a VX or VXT into the US, it just can't be done.

You can tell me that after it happens. :) It can't be done to you because you haven't tried. Anything is impossible until it happens. You just wait. But thanks for the encouragement.

I suggest you actually read about the requirements for importing a vehicle into the US.

I know the requirements, but I'm trying anyway. There is no harm in trying. If I find a way and they allow it to happen, then you can tell me it's impossible. But until then, I'm trying no matter what.

Good for you Nicane, its good to see someone trying to do something a bit different. Many people just sit on there arses and pick the easy route, which your not and (though I hate to mention the age thing), its particularly pleasing to see someone young willing to take the crap and hassles to do it. I would guess the way to go would start with an Opel Speedster (the steering wheels on the right side), and maybe talk to any Lotus dealers, independents with regards getting it into the country and legal. Good luck with it, and let us know how you get on. Martin s ps I dont know what part of the states your in, but they dont come with air con!
