Then I am closing this thread and going away to think about it! The contributing factors (and these have been building for a while) are. rant Yet ANOTHER panel has started to loose it's paint!!!! and this is on one that was done in it 4 weeks away last October. Thats another couple of wasted days trying to get it sorted at Crownhill, which will then result in it going to riverside again for at least a week. :o We have no practial car, I have just pulled the carpet up in Sharon trying to get two ski bags in it. (Not major but another thing to fix and make good, Sharons not happy and neither am bloody I) :beat: It is actually demanding to much of my time, while it was a nice hobby to have in my boring job and I could live with the quirks. The new business is demanding as much time as I am prepared to give it, but the VX wants some time to. :9mm: The niggles are just get to much, I want a car that I can just get in a drive, no farting around trying to unlock the bloody thing, no questions of will it fit in the boot? Has it leaked? or has someone scratched it! Having at least one practical car (with 4 seats!) would be great for us and family and far more practical for the business. If I could see a way round this I would do it, but I can not. We can't afford another third car (Unless someone wants to buy £100K of door entry, home networking and/or tv distribution systems NOW which will allow me to get a company car) so that the VX can go in the garage. rant One, very pissed off VEX rant

Other than the first one, the things you mentioned are simply facets of the car (or any car of this type....well it shouldn't leak either)). If you really need room, ease of use and practicality, then you are in fact right, the VX is not the car for you. (sorry to sound blunt, but the VX is a great, but largely impracticle form of transport). If I was in your position I would be thinking exactly as you are.

Carpets can be mended - we just didn't need the hassle today. :( Take time to chill and think. :sleepy: VX is impractical but we always knew that. Other than that, don't do anything rash!! Oh and btw, having just noticed your excitement at being "spotted" - I spot you every day........so there! ;)

Vex, you'll be OK advertising on this forum, no bugger uses the search facility so they won't see your cars history .... :D Sorry mate. Like skiddo sez, it makes sense for you to own it, or it doesn't. Don't limp along tolerating it. Bin it or embrace it. PS easy for me to say, no problems with my VX so far....

Its a tough one. The VX will never be practical and probably never completely leak free... Can't you justify another car as well? I ran a Vectra estate for a year which only cost me £2.5k to buy. Useful for when a bigger car is needed. Also made driving the VX feel more special. If you can't justify it, then I fear the VX may no longer be for you...

Vex, There's nothing we can tell you about owning a VX that you don't already know. You two are the only ones who can decide if the time's up or not. Take your time, though - don't rush into something that you might regret later. If the car's not right for you anymore, though, then get something that is. Personally, I can't see myself ever selling mine, but that's just what's right for me. Good luck either way :)

Chris, it's like a woman.... Cant live with it, cant live with out it. Only you can decide and asking the board is a little unfair, just take a deep breath. Sit down and think about ALL the pro's and con's. If, for your life, at this moment in time, one out weighs the other you will know what to do. Stumps

If you're new job is monopolising your time, then I understand where you're coming from. If what little VX time you have is used up on sorting out the negative bits, it's no wonder you're considering a change as you never get to enjoy the best bits of the ownership experience. Unless your financial situation changes (so you can buy a 3rd car) or you free up more time from work (so you can enjoy the car more), then go with your instincts and look at a practical change. You can always come back into the "fold" later down the line when your situation improves. As has been already mentioned, take time to consider your options and not rush into a decision just because you're annoyed again. Personally I had a few thoughts over the dark & wet winter and considered a change (and I have had no probs so far..touch wood) but now the sun is out more often, my ownership experience takes on a different perspective..at least until Oct when the dark evenings return. Saying all that though..with summer approaching, now is probably the best time to consider selling as prices are high to match demands for soft tops Good luck.

As I'm sure you know, as you go through life your priorities change. It sounds as though you have reached a crossroads. If the practical car is the appropriate option now, take it. As life progresses, then the appropriate option may then return to the VX - take it then. This way, you get the relevant option at the optimum time that your life dictates. You can always come back to the VX - or any other vehicle - at your leisure. Woody

It's like Frankie Beverley said.... "Remember when you first found love how you felt so good Kind that last forever more so you thought it would Suddenly the things you see got you hurt so bad How come the things that make us happy make us sad" Try and remember why you bought it in the first place. I used to have days like that with my Elise, I would hate it somedays but once you had fixed everything that fell off and went for a drive on a lovely summers day then I would love it again. Sometimes cars can be a massive pain in the ass! but sometimes they can make you feel on top of the world. :D What you have to ask yourself is " how much will I regret it if I sell it?" Probably doesnt help you much but been their before and regretted it.

Chris. Your not old enough to get a Volvo yet, keep the VX, stay young forever. Besides, who else is gonna organise the NOMTIES runs, we need you. Lets put it into perspective, its only paint, it will repair, it has a warrenty, I bet the chap who hit the bus in his Speedster the other day and ripped it into two, was just returning from the Opel dealer, and was driving fast because he was angry about bad service, parts outstanding or paint defects. Dont let things like this get you down, you work hard and your business is doing well, soon you will be the richest bloke I know, you need a car like the VX as a stress reliever, its the only thing that keeps me sane, after a blazing argument with my dealer principle yesterday, when I was close to telling him what to do with his job, I drove home in the Frog (yup I've named mine too) and did a great bit of road, and returned home in good spirits, didn't let the bugger get me down. Chin up me old mate. Wayne

As irritating as the car can be, look back at then fun you've had - that's priceless! Paint issues etc are irritating, but put it in perspective and you'll see it makes sense to hang on. I run my own business, and believe me you need an escape and a diversion to keep your balance. Get your dealer to collect the car and return it if you don't have time to drop it off. You'll come to your own conclusions, but by asking us, at least there's some hope ;)

What about spending a grand or two on a large classy jalopy for your third car? Not too expensive, bags of space, will look good and you can keep the VX. Wouldn't like to suggest anything though as something I consider classy may offend. :D
