I think maybe some people are confusing two things...a reasonable mode of transport and a VX. If you need transport, then there can be absolutely no arguement...the VX isn't it, so you need to sell it. If you need a toy to play with, keep it. The cars are fine just so long as you're not going anywhere...or taking anything and anybody with you. If you are, just about anything else is better.

Got to say this and apologise now but you are a f*** wit! ;)

Have had my vx 18 months done 50k miles, been just about everywhere in this country and most of Europe. YOU CAN LIVE WITH IT EVERYDAY.

Chris has another problem, a shed load of money invested in something HE and HE only believes should be put together a lot better. Nothing wrong with that, but to say it's a play thing you are simply wrong and miss the point of the car.

Oops

That was a bit forthright Stumpy !! :D I'm between stools as it were....The VX can most definitely be used to go anywhere and with a decent amount of luggage (for one or two) BUT it needs an acceptance of inconvenience in the part of the driver. No way would you tolerate the faults, the access, the finish in a Vectra, for example. Its just that the driving experience makes up for the inconveniences in your case (and mine too mostly!). I think in VEX's case the inconveniences have overwhelmed the fun he's able to have. Thats a shame. My impression is swayed strongly by the fact that I seem to have an entirely fault free VX so far (touch wood) and I am yet to be sodomized by GMs 'aftercare'. I'm excited like a teenager at the prospect of my first proper roadtrip in the VX - a Midlands to Alicante odyssey to be conducted in June with my mate, so my own opinion is clear ! :D JDHs attitude is also clear, I think he sold his VXT last month due to 'old age'.

PB, You and I have been round the block mate  But I have been thinking a lot lately and was going to post under another heading. You know (for me anyway) it's not really about the car. Yes is great to drive, I could not live without it (even if crownhills still have it - BASTARDS) no it's not about the car. The reason the board is so great, and I like Chris and others put up with heater knobs falling on the floor and roof leaks is that we are all the different but the same. This does not read well and sitting at work today of all days pisses me off but, it's actually about all you other guys and girls, bit odd that, but to me I dont think I can get rid of the vx cos I have met 200ish people just like me but different. It's not that we all wear Jeans and stuff like that. It's more about how we think and whats important in our lives. I see so many people just doing stuff, you know what I mean. Seems to me that all the people I have met or posted on this board actually THINK about stuff. All pat yourselves on the back please!!! ;) And that stuff led us to buying the car we wanted, not the car we should have bought. It's all strange and I know what I want to say but be honest, would having the car be the same without the club? For me it would not. It would (like Chris) frustrate me in the end, and I would swap it for my Alfa GTA. But I won't cos I dont want to be a troll. I want to own the car, be part of the board and go rant the bollocks of the little thing with like minded other. God I hope you all get what I am saying or I will have to get my coat Imnotworthy Stumps

Stumps, I agree this is unique little community. Its like a proper club, not an internet forum. Perhaps the same ornery streak that made us spend beer vouchers on a deeply unfashionable brand also indicates other attributes, like , I dunno, accommodation, consideration, 'thinkingness', that type of thing. What I particularly like is that its not just that we are (ahem) a more 'mature' demographic than other forums, 'cos even the nippers are good skins (as we say in Dudley!) and help out with any old ballix, however awkward for them. We even fall out in a passionate but civilized manner ! Whatever, its a pretty cool club and it will be fun to do more meets this year. I only managed 2 last year and I am still to get drunk with members, which is not a good admission ! Before we get moderated out into another forum  I'd just remind VEX that car or no, he's always welcome here and at meets. :grouphug:

An apology to someone called 'stumpy' who I seem to have upset by suggesting that the VX is a toy. I genuinely never thought for one second that there were people out there who considered this to be a sensible means of transportation. I was wrong. Sorry.

JDH, I am absolutely with you mate. IMO the VX is a fantastic weekend car, great for going out and having a blast in the sun with the roof off. BUT, an everyday car? Do me a favour, the VX is a lot of great things, but practicality aint one of 'em !! Cheers Gerry

I've been using lightweight sports cars as everyday cars for most of my life, s'never bothered me. Still, I don't think i'd be offended by someone calling it a toy.

jdh you cast vote by selling yours. Stumpy was a bit vociferous, but I feel the VX is far more than a 'toy. A radical or an arial atom is a 'toy', the VX is a sports tourer with emphasis on the 'sports' :D Enjoy whatever you replace the VX with mate. Horses for courses.

PB, I remember that now as I had a PM exchange with him. The reason he sold it in a few hours is cos a) I put the buyer on to him and B) he sold it for NA money.

But good luck to him as he did not lose any dosh on it.

Maybe I should explain this toy thing. It's not supposed to be an insult. But the guy who was/is thinking of selling his vx expressed a bunch of needs/wants which were incongruent with a vx. I like toys...it's just that Vex wants/needs practical transport which isn't a hassle. And I stand by my original comment that most cars fit that criteria better than a vx. How can I put this...it's a bit like Pamela Anderson fans getting hot under the collar because you criticise her ironing skills. It's not what she's about, and if you need a woman who can iron, you'd better look elsewhere.

Funny this you, don't even know the bloke! He is one of the best people you would ever want to meet. I dont want him to sell his VX cos' he really is a nice person.

Yep, a bit pissed off at the mo and can't see the value of his VX, however it's down to what I said, we are all people that sort of think the same and we get over this type of stuff.

By all means add to the purpose of the board, but you have flogged yours and are still here, why? I guess it's because we are THE best car club on the internet.

Now don't get me started, I am not some "bloke called 'STUMPY'" I am someone who loves their car (with it's faults), loves this site, loves the people on it and for those who know me and embrassed this club and gone to NOMTIES, they will know my real name and WHAT VEX and VEXY are all about.

Chris, KEEP YOUR CAR, YOU WILL BE SUCH A GREAT LOSS AND I WILL COME AND FIX ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG!!! Thanks for your input, support of the site and the great meets you strive to deliver.
