Jenny from MSAR explained to me about crash videos from sideways impacts where the injuries end up bad die slipping the belts. She said the standard seatbelt is safer in this type of accident. A CG Lock on the standard belt certainly helps a bit on track but a full harness (through slots ;)) really helps connect you to the car. The odd go I have had in something with a MOG type seat has convinced me that taller sides are also a great part of the experience. For those who don't want to butcher their seats, I would therfore suggest a MOG type of seat and keep the original tucked up safe. Some of them are more reclined though which may or may not help with the driving position.

just the mog seat with standard belt makes you feel hardwired to the car. you can mount the mog on the drivers rail and have adjustment, but if you use the Lotus motorsport brackets you can drop the seat right down on the floor and/or tilt it for a lot more head clearance.

I got my bolt in harness bar from hangar111. The bolt points seem really far apart, as if they are designed to go round the seats. Looking at where I would cut out the holes I don't think it will help. Not sure if I should leave it or wrap them around. Will get a photo up.

I agree Steve. That looks like it was designed to go round the outside the outside of the seat. Putting it though holes would just put a bend in the harness, thus weakening the strength of the harness (putting a rope through 45 degrees weakens it by 60%) I would have though in this scenario if the force was enough to force the belts apart they would just take the seat with them as the amount of material left on the outside of the holes is not very much?

I've got a harness bar from hanger111 and use the harness bolted as i do not have a seat with holes in. when done up tight there is no way the harness is going to part. If saftey is such a concern then you should invest in a proper seat designed for cutouts not get a black and decker to seats that were not built to have holes

Even though I took the Black & Decker to mine, he has a good point. I should have just bought a Mog and then returned the car to standard seats for sale. Much more side support ...

I give up. Call MSAR and speak to Jenny or Malcolm and they will tell you.

Dont give up ian. what i am saying is that in the vx, with the vx seats and the bolt on harness and bar, the way the harness comes over the narrower part of the seat and over my shoulders(i'm just over 6ft) there is no way they are going to part. A shorter person or maybe even a taller person this may not be the case, or maybe in a different car with different seats. A lot of cars the harness bar is a lot further back from the seat. ME I'm going nowhere!
