high tickover is usually an air leak between the head and inlet manifold or a wrongly connected pipe on the inlet system allowing air into the engine thumbsup

i was in the car earlier driving around to get petrol as i was on refill and the car suddenly died. when im driving with this busted relay the rear sidelights stay on but the front dont, the indicators to the left flash faster than normal but right is fine, the engine wont turn off once the key is removed. if i go into the boot and unplug the brown relay everything dies and i can start it up again without problems, and the car runs perfect when its actually driving. im going to test a new set of relays tonight and see if they solve it. the high idle isnt high anymore, it was left all day and i got in it after work and it revved to about 2k then 1.5 then 1 then settled at about 850-950. that happened in the space of about 1 min.

Mine doesn't, it seems to rev up and down to about 2000 rpm 2-3 times when I first start it but thats it, after that it settles down, lasts no more than 10 secs. The biggest issue with mine is its very lathargic at low revs for 1-2 minutes until (I presume) the lambda sensors get up to temp and it starts to regulate the fueling properly. It would appear the base map is not fuelling right at low revs.

update: i figured out what was wrong with it, a pin in the brown relay had come off, so i put it back together and all was good, i took it for a drive and the car died in the middle of the road, got out and checked the fuses, checked the battery but nothing, no lights on at all.. i was looking at the fuses and no.7 Ignition Services fuse had blown, replaced this with a spare and i drove home. once i got home i left it and my mate came over, so thinking that all was fine i took him for a gentle spin in the car, got back and the car wouldnt start. I had all sorts of problems, rear lights coming on, dash all lit up, if you touched the relays the fuel rail would start ticking, after a couple hours i took the rear drivers wheel off to put the wheel arch back in and noticed that the loom had fallen onto the wheel and just worn away into the wires.. )(DOH!) sorted all them out and all problems went away.. hmm.. plugged in all the lights and wat not and now the only thing thats not working is the front left indicator bulb not flashing until i unplug the HID ballast then it flashes.. but it was getting very dark so i left it for tonight with the battery on charge. ill update again tomorrow :)

from what could of been a quick fix of the relay this afternoon, ive ended up stripping the starter motor out and checking that and breaking the bolt on the solenoid, so i had to repair that.. lol im happy tho as i know that its done, i hate problems that just 'go away' as you never really know whats going on.

It does indeed remain open to the atmosphere (at least it certainly does on a Stage2/3). thumbsup
