Yes, indeed.
Because most of the turbo and boost control system is mechanical it would be very hard to make an engine management system that could detect a stuffed recirc.
You'd have to plot and analyse graphs of boost pressure against time alongside engine load and throttle position.... i'm just rambling.

Good point on Lotus. I often think a good understanding of the general systems at work on a car is a lot more use than model specific experience repeated. - One of my best friends was a renault mechanic, then a vauxhall mechanic, and now he works for Arnold Clark, working on all models. Only now is he any use!
