I use Pagid blacks and nobody is harder on brakes than I am. Fantastic on the circuit, great on road.

Noisy till they are warm *(which they never get on road) and rattle like hell in the caliper though.

I just turn the stereo up.

turn out this is what we were running too.
we ended up buying the Perf friction ones to try, so will let you know how they feel in comparison when we go the the ring

I use RS42's with AP295 front discs and I think I'd run of of petrol on track before they'd fade, they work perfectly for me. I don' find them noisy, no noiser than stock and they work better from cold than stock did. I'm a very late hard braker, but admittedly on road tyres and n/a power. Maybe different with an extra 100bhp and sticky rubber.

Why strange?
What would you recommend?

No direct experience of the Performance Friction pads. I think NickB777 might be able to do a comparison between those and the RC5+ which he is now running. Although, the last thing I heard (which may not be correct) was that PF had stopped making them for the Elise/VX.

CL RC5+ are the ones to go for, at the moment.

I was told that PF have stopped making them for the vx. Questmead have a few left in stock last time I checked, However after going CR5+ I wouldn't go back although they need a couple more applications to get them up to temp compared to PF they are far better IMHO (always wondered what that speck on the windscreen was  )
