I MUCH prefer my car after the swap to 16" fronts I've never go back to 17".

Steve: I have just realized your answer right now. Shouldn´t be the motion of the tire with a greater sidewall also greater? I fear that this wobbly motion erase the advantage of the lighter rim... facing also, that the the tire will be heavier due to the greater tire section. So there might be now weight advantage overall for the combo?

I should be posting pictures this week!!

Paul

Looking forward to see the finished new wheels, some close up pics would be great. Have you received them already then?
I'm just trying to make my mind up whether to buy a second hand set of the ones from the group buy or wait & save up some more to get a set of these new...
Cheers.

Wheels arrived here today. Have been on order since 4-Aug. James at Compo has kept me updated weekly as to the progress of the wheels. I'm getting the outer lip painted today. Should be on car tomorrow and pics posted tomorrow. Paul PS I am keeping my old wheels for the time being.

I weighed them in the packaging. They were in the normal cardboard boxes - less than 1/2 a kilo per box. Front 9.5 kg Rear 12 kg I'll weight TD's on the same scales when I swap over the tires. Paul

Good news they've arrived now. What's your verdict on the quality of finish on them? Cheers.

I spoke with james at Compo again today. He indicated the 17 Inch fronts are now not ready until back end of December. On the plus side , he indicated they may be up for doing a group deal (min 10 sets) on a full 17 inch set of fronts and rears to get the new wheel size going. They wouldn't do one on the existing 16/17 sizes though. Will chase this up a bit closer to xmas

I might be up for a set of full 17s, as long as the fronts are wider to accept 195/205 tyres, depends on the price thumbsup

:yeahthat: I'd be interested too.

Although as Neil says, as long as they can easily accept 195/205 tyres to ensure the widest possible choice of tyres.

I'm still going to be wanting the 16"/17" Lotus Exige/VXR220 sizes then I can run the Yoko A048 LTS spec tyres.. I just look at it that if Lotus puts that size on an Exige Cup 260 should be plenty right for my vxt. Cheers.

Thanks indeed very much for sorting this out. Could not contain excitement so rushed straight over to group buy to put my name down.

Cheers.

Thanks for posting the pics up. Wheels look to have a nice finish on them, are you pleased with quality of them? Are they the satin black & is it pic making them look dark grey? Either way colour looks great. Also is your suspension standard Billys? Front arch gap doesn't look as bad as some have said on other posts, especially looking at full car pic. Do you have a side on full car shot or front angle? Thanks a lot. Cheers.

Suspension is standard. Finish is a satin black, but it does look a tiny bit grey to me. Paint finish is not as good as TD, simple as. Rear wheel/tyre does not stick out much further than TD and there is no rubbing at this point. One issue I did have was the rear centre caps would not fit. The design is that they have to fit through the wheel and then through the hub for the clip to locate. They went through the wheel but the diameter of the cap was simply miles bigger than the diameter of the hub. No way they were going in. I trimmed the clips back and used high strength double sided sticky tape to hold them in place, it was a work around but not perfect. The other issue was that the rear wheels were VERY tight on the hubs, if they had been any tighter I would have sent them back for fear of damaging the wheel. Having said all that I am pleased. I was looking for a wheel that was easier to clean than the TD but with the same strength and lightness. From everything I have read the wheels are going to be just as strong as the TDs, only a little heavier and having got them on the car they are clearly going to be super easy to clean. What has suprised me is that I really like the look of them. I'm not normally a friend of black wheels, but in this case I can make an exception. Paul And yes I'll reduce the size of my signature photo in the next couple of days!!!

Thanks for the info. I like the colour, when you say finish isn't as good as the td's what's it like to oe wheels? I don't think my oe vxt wheels are that well finished. Also thanks for pointing out the problems with the centre caps & wheel fit. I'll mention these in the group buy & maybe we can get that stuff rectified before the make them. Cheers.

Regarding the finish, one of the rear wheels had a slightly wobbly outer rim. The powder coating has a couple of blobs of unmelted powder. My std NA wheels had none of the above problems. Neither did my TDs. However the Compo painting seems to be really thick like the spray person used to paint submarines. Perhaps it was the thickness of the paint that made them hard to get onto my rear hubs. Anyone who is concerned about the paint finish can order them unpainted. I don't mind mine having the odd blemish but I'm not too much of a perfectionist in that way. I think we are not comparing like with like. The Compos are motorsport wheels not showroom wheels. I actually like their appearence but you are never going to get away from their competition roots and odd blemishes. I am over the moon I bought them. They are not cheap, the centre caps don't fit the rear hubs etc but they are still ace. Paul
