How does the hotel part work when you buy the package ?
Are you given some special code and have to contact the hotel yourself to book a room for 2 nights ?

I presume LoT book it for you as you have paid them 350 for the package which includes the hotel

I'm already signed up and paid for. Just debating on the transport now. Not sure whether to do the Eurotunnel or whether to get the fast ferry from Portsmouth -> Caen. Depends on whether I go to the 24hr in June.

When you consider the difference in mileage (95 as opposed to 268) so more fuel and the cost of the tolls Portsmouth - Caen wont end up costing much more than the Eurotunnel. Also, for me, Portsmouth is a lot closer than Ashford. .

That's how I was looking at it. Really don't want the autoroute schlepp again, if I can avoid most of it (especially if I've already done it for the 24hr). Spookily, Portsmouth is almost exactly the same distance as the Chunnel terminal from here, as well. And at least I'd only have the A34/M27 to deal with and not the M25 and Dartford crossing. A lot depends on whether the missus comes though.....

99 miles from Caen. 130 miles if you get the ferry to Le Havre. Or, 260'ish from Eurotunnel. Haven't done the maths fuel/toll wise. Only time/distance. But the ferry is more than double the cost of Le Tunnel.

Where is everybody staying on the Sunday after the Bugatti TD? I drove home this year and it was a nightmare but the special hotel rate doesn't usually apply to this night and the Mercure is not the cheapest?

I cant get a quote for Newhaven Dieppe for those dates, too far ahead for their booking system, but for June they are saying £200, Portsmouth Caen is coming up as £236 and Eurotunnel will prob be the usual £80 odd I suppose. Dieppe Le Mans is 115 miles and Caen Le Mans is 95 miles or so. As Portsmouth is so easy for me thats the crossing I'll prob use.

Coming from the midlands makes no odds to me whether its Newhaven or Folkestone, but..
The ferry only seems to run twice a day (as far ahead as I could see in March). Early and Late. Which means I would have to get up at stupid-oclock on the thurs.
It takes 4hrs to cross, but only saves me 100 miles of driving at the other side vs the Eurotunnel. Whatever saving I make in petrol will no doubt be gobbled up by the 'summer' ferry rates when they are available to book.

Ha ha, I have been planning to take the Ferry this time, but thought I'd get abuse if I let that out of the bag so soon  Seems I'm not alone..... Last years convoy was EPIC!!! Must be one of the biggest ever, but it cost me over 320miles extra to take part. I hope a big convoy still goes ahead, but I won't be taking the tunnel!!
