the only thing likely to break is the usual two metal seals (5)

Any idea what part number they are as it doesnt seem to show on the diagram?

5 SEAL,RING,OIL COOLER CONNECTOR TO OIL FILTER = 2 x 9198195

I have encountered some extremely tight oil filters, but a 3 foot prybar will loosen them :P

And is unlikely to break? :)

a cheap socket wrench probably will, just use a good quality 32mm socket (you can sometimes get away with just the 1/2" extension bar - in the middle square cutout), extension bar and long prybar

You may have to invest in an impact socket style 32mm socket (ie one which has a narrow shoulder (where it meets the ratchet / extension bar) as trying to sneak it under the inlet manifold is a proper twat otherwise. On mine I can't slip an ordinary 32mm socket on, so will invest in one as the 1/2" extension hole has seen better days.

Yeah I think they are, autovaux said minimum 8 working days :(

The main body is a stock item but the cap and bottom section (12 & 11) which is usually sold together is on back order. I've been waiting since late January.

In the end i sourced a complete unit from Douglas Valley (£40)which came apart OK

BTW the drawing of the whole assembly i have differs slightly from the one on the link posted by Matt. On mine the top is item 12 and is linked to the bottom section. (if i know how to post the drawing i would do so  )

Weird, vaux didn't recognize some of those part numbers, they had to go away and find them out.

Mine was solid and was told not to use the square hole and just put a ring spanner over the top section ,then came off no problem. The square hole had worn edges from an earlier owner so will use the ring spanner from now on.

Reviving an old topic rather than making a new one... do i get a cookie? When i had my last service at BoT they couldnt change my oil filter as the cap was seized on :( . So they said it will be fine for another year as the filter was changed on the service before. Well now im a few months away from the service being due and remember them saying the housing will have to be taken off, i guess thats to replace the whole unit. Does anyone know how big a job this will be (rough top end cost, etc) and if the housing still has a waiting time, if it is i'll stick an order in straight away with our vauxhall dealer guy on the forum (forgotten his username). Cheers people, been a long time since ive browsed the forum, dont recognise half the names on here now

Good luck if you need a new top! I've had one on order for 12 months now and Vaux cannot supply. The central stores in euro land keep saying that they cannot supply due to supplier issues which I guess means that their supplier won't do a small production run so Vaux attitude appears to be to bury their head in the sand and say "fcuk you" to the people who buy their cars. They also have a habit of cancelling orders not completed after 3 months leaving you to reorder so that such long overdue items don't affect their supply statistics.

You can still obtain the main body section though so if the unit won't split once off the car your only option is to separate by junking the main body whilst ensuring you don't damage the top. Alternative is to try to source a top or complete assembly from a breakers which is what I ended up doing.

If you decide to buy a new main body section make sure you are sat down when they tell you the price

Nice thought Lee but I doubt it. I did have 4 on order at one point through different sources

I have to say that James (Aston Vauxhall) was marvellous throughout the process and kept me fully informed with Opels excuses but we never got to the bottom of the issue. Of course any decent company would release the pattern or source alternative suppliers if their original one can't supply.

This happened to me now. I managed to separate the housing and the top using some persuation. I'm trying to make a tool to be able to tighten the housing down for good this time. Does anybody know the correct torque figure to apply?

Don't know if will help but when mine was last done I had them use threadlock on the main body and copper slip on the top even though the body was torqued up using the hard to obtain special tool.

It worked!!

120 Nm with no problems.
My oil filter housing is now firmly connected to the engine.

Please ignore the finish of the welding.
