This intercooler is suitable up to stage 3 / 270 bhp. You will still need to ensure you have everything else for stage 3 i.e. exhaust, pre cat removal etc, as well as the remap. And no, this intercooler is not suitable for stage 4. For stage 4, then you will need the larger MMG intercooler.

Ok thanks, do you no how much the map would be with the other group buy?

PM on it's way for you.

Cheers.

thumbsup you have pm

Do you no the price of the larger intercooler? Would like to compare incase it's worth going for that instead so can upgrade to stage 4 later down the line.

Not 100% sure, but something like £1100 / £1200. But the larger intercooler isn't suited to the standard turbo. The standard turbo doesn't provide enough boost to work with the larger intercooler.

Ok that's fine, I'm going to give Liam a call in the week then and i might be jumping on this group buy plus the remap one.

I've spoken to Liam today. This group buy is until the end of April. 5 names on the list so far. Would be good if we could get at least another 5 to get the 10 off pricing thumbsup This is a great upgrade for VX220 turbo's. A few pics (although please note the core for the actual intercooler is very slightly different) :

Not sure why a big intercooler is unsuitable for a stock turbo. Makes no sence, unless it was so big that the air dropped to laminar flow with a boundary layer. Not likely. Suppose there would be a lag increase as the volume rises, but really compared to the stock ic on my old Volvo even the fattest ic on a vx would be tiny by comparison, and that was a measly T2. I have a friend with an rx7 one spare in his garage, its small but deep and unrestrictive. Keep meaning to offer it up some time. If only I had money to spare I could just buy one huh? The luxury! Ha ha. Sorry for clutter. Delete me if you wish.

Thanks for posting the pictures up. Good to have a look at them. Looks like the uprated cooler is 1 row narrower than the oe but all rows are longer comparing where the brackets are. I guess overall they're probably about the same size? What's the difference between this & the actual final version? Good news that it runs to end of April, ties in with the remap group buy that runs until then as well. Hopefully we will get 5 more takers. Cheers.

Very interested but waiting for the return of my car before I start to spend on such items. I have been looking at the vx performance IC which works well upto stage 3.5 ish

A graph showing the results of the standard intercooler and the new MMG intercooler. Note the airflow temp on the standard intercooler is 6 degrees less than on the MMG intercooler :

Thanks for posting that diagram! Are there also other ones existing? You can't see the driving speeds, especially timescale from 650-700s would be interesting.

Mine arrived today.

Built like a tank, and the core looks good too - there are 8 rows in total.

Will be a couple of weeks before I can get to fit it though :(

Weigth of the part, an dimensions please, makes it easier to compare it to other intercoolers.

@stigg10 I can vouch for the build quality being great as well. Thanks for putting the pics up. Looking forward to mine being fitted.

@dominik Quality of the core is important when comparing to other intercoolers as well.

Cheers.
