Thinking about a Maserati GranTurismo  but I need to try and justify spending large amounts of cash on a car like that.

BMW Z4M Coupe.

There's a local one of these that I pass by quite often in black. Have to say, it's a fine looking machine and with a decent amount of "nuttiness". That's an essential part of any car I buy.

No car has lasted in my affections more than 3 years with me and I'm fresh into the VXT so unlikely to be looking right now.

However I was looking at E46 M3's (amongst some others that people have noted above) and if you're expecting them to be a paragon of reliability it might be worth a re-think. They're fine all the time they are having money spent on them but stop that and you're only deferring bigger bills... something to bear in mind.

The term "M tax" wasn't made up for fun.

Knowing the fact that when I get rid of the VX it'll be for family commitments and the amount of money that goes with that, I think my replacement may be a little mk1 MX5 for about £1k and then do it up. If things are going well I could slap a supercharger or turbo on it. thumbsup

Good question. Depends when the geegee gets sent to the glue factory on a number of things.

I drove the sister in law's Cayman a few weeks ago. It's nice.... but I wouldn't chop the VX in for it.

I'd say I would be unlikely to sell my VX, was planning to sell it when I buy a house but I am now positioning myself so I don't need to do that. If it was written off than I would likely look at something V8 powered with a TVR badge. ;)

In all likelyhood, rather than change it I'd tune it.

Definitely !!

I have. I just don't see what other people mean by "grown up car" or "upgrading from a VX" ??

You can't upgrade from a tuned VX handling- and funwise unless you go for a Radical etc. !! Whereas the VX has some marginal practicality.

Best solution is to have a VX and a shed. Which is cheaper still in most cases.

Long way off, but a 'baby' Aston is high up the list given the drive in one the other week... You can be such a hamfisted twat with one and it wont try to kill you, so its gotta be the one for a hamfisted twat like me

Reckon it will suit you

Don't want to sell the VX. Probably the best car for bang for your buck. I wouldn't mind a Noble or a TVR though.

My next car will be my shed replacement and hopefully one of these - Posted Image

There will be no next car. Just bought a 6 by 12 foot piece of lawn on the nearby cemetary and made it clear they install an oil trap down the bottom to save the environment after my day has come. Even having lots of money I could not imagine which car could better serve my needs of driving and repairing pleasure. No way never will I sell this thing. Would prefer a 993 Turbo as a second every day car. Would make a lovely addon.

Some interesting posts there. Would love to think I will keep the VX forever, but unless the tide turns I worry they could obsolete themselves in the next 10yrs. Supply of replacement parts by Vauxhall is shìt, at best, at the moment, god only knows how difficult getting a replacement clam, oil cooler adaptor gaskets  or headlights would be. Also with the increase in interest and production of CF chassis... The VX/Elise ali tub is going to be heavy and old hat shortly and therefore will only remain as a heritage piece of Britains former automotive industry. The chasing of coat-tails that Lotus seem to be doing at the moment could easily see the death of them so supplies of the replacement shared parts could get very expensive as well. Would love to be wrong! As for the Alfa 4C chassis... If they got that right with a 200pony light weight rev happy Alfa engine that thing could be a riot to drive. Though the interior is a maybe a bit too 'Nissan Juke' for me... But I would forgive all for a Lotus standard chassis and a lively engine that looks even 80% as good as the press pics. Now if they could make all that and an Alfa 4C Cabrio I might just consider some medical testing!
