Some interesting posts there. Would love to think I will keep the VX forever, but unless the tide turns I worry they could obsolete themselves in the next 10yrs.

Supply of replacement parts by Vauxhall is shìt, at best, at the moment, god only knows how difficult getting a replacement clam, oil cooler adaptor gaskets  or headlights would be.

Also with the increase in interest and production of CF chassis... The VX/Elise ali tub is going to be heavy and old hat shortly and therefore will only remain as a heritage piece of Britains former automotive industry. The chasing of coat-tails that Lotus seem to be doing at the moment could easily see the death of them so supplies of the replacement shared parts could get very expensive as well.

Would love to be wrong!

As for the Alfa 4C chassis... If they got that right with a 200pony light weight rev happy Alfa engine that thing could be a riot to drive. Though the interior is a maybe a bit too 'Nissan Juke' for me... But I would forgive all for a Lotus standard chassis and a lively engine that looks even 80% as good as the press pics. Now if they could make all that and an Alfa 4C Cabrio I might just consider some medical testing!

I think most people are forced to change. I had no thoughts of getting rid of the vx but once i was forced to get a new car i started to look at other things as a change.

Looking at the Nobles though makes you see how good looking the chassis is on the vx/lotus. Such a nice looking ally and red glue whereas the Noble is 1" box steel painted black and frankly looks sh**. And is quite common to rust. thankfully it is easy to repair and replace bits though

Having spent the last 2 years seeing the 4C pictured as soft top, I was really disappointed to see the Geneva version. :(

Ultimately would love to change for an early Ferrari 360 manual in red with creme leather  Realistically though maybe a Z4m coupe or 996 turbo. I see a few folks would change for a Cayman but think that look really awkward, although aparently a very good car, just not for me.

Not sure for me. I bought the VX knowing that should a family come along (my own one, not someone off the street ;) ) i might have to sell and hopefully 220 values have reached their lowest point. I expect i'd get a more 'grown up' (read softer) sports car and if i had to do this next week i'd have a Porsche Boxster. If prices dip enough then i'd have a Cayman S in a few years. However, I expect my budget and time to enjoy it will be reduced by the patter of tiny feet so i'd probably opt for another classic Saab and enjoy a slower and cheaper pace of life. G

Assuming my circumstances don't change and I don't need additional seats... I think it would either be a VX SC for something different or a Noble. Love my lardy tubby and can't see me trading for a while but have always fancied the whine of an SC and love Nobles.

Another nod for the Vantage, whilst looking for a replacement daily driver last year, I found a sub 20000 mile 06 example, I briefly tried to justify selling the VX as well as the diesel & just run one car (a V8 at that), but alas :( not at 15mpg!

Another nod for the Vantage,

Yes, it's very tempting! Insurance is cheaper that the other 'next car' I'm looking at but when I started looking in to servicing costs... OMG! £1300 pa for warranty and then your services are discounted to something like £850 every 6k miles plus any other maintenance. I love cars and I love the aston but I don't want to commit to that!

The only thing that would really interest me now is an Exige or Elise and only because its basically a newer VX. A sensible approach these days is to have a comfortable, frugal daily drive and something more focused for the weekend. There have been some interesting looking new cars (like the Alfa mentioned above) but they usually tend to disappoint. Once single car to be a daily drive and interesting drivers car is a bit of a holy grail for me. Money no object is a different matter of course but realistically looking at "affordable" cars you just cant get the driver involvement that were spoiled with. Stuff like M3s etc are all well and good but with the price of petrol they are just on the edge of starting to look a bit silly when you factor in the fact you get more fun from an economic little sports car and can run a frugal daily and do it cheaper overall. Might fancy upgrading the daily drive (Golf)for something rear wheel drive at some point but it will be a diesel BMW more than likely.

Not sure I'd ever get rid of the VX but I still have an itches for a Lotus Espirit, TVR T350 and Maserati 3200/4200 which need to be scratched.

Long way off, but a 'baby' Aston is high up the list given the drive in one the other week... You can be such a hamfisted twat with one and it wont try to kill you, so its gotta be the one for a hamfisted twat like me

Reckon it will suit you

TBH I'f I could afford it (as in to waste £30K, I'd have one of those aswell as a Vantage S

Can definitely recommend the Z4M Coupe as a next car. I love every minute of it and have no intention of trading in any time soon... but when I do, it will be a Vantage. Imnotworthy

So Ive had VXs for 3 odd years now and for me thats a freakin lifetime. I think I might sell the VX next year and get something a bit more "groen up" (ready to get flamed...). Ive been looking at a whole pile of stuff: 993 Porker, F355, Cayman, E46 M3 and I still love Esprits... It'll probably be an M3 though as the first three I cant actually afford and the last one will be less trustworthy than the VX. Whats everyone elses car over the horizon?

Yes when i get to old for a vx i may move on like you,but i am only 54 so a while off yet.Take it your a lot older."groen up" on the horizon may be a moonland turbo or a sc for mine. When i get to your age may be a 911 and a zimmer

Youre a dick Bob, a dick... :P Have you got your free bus pass yet lad?

Its more restlessness than anything else. The option to have a super comfy but still fun/quick car really apeals to me but as has been said, its probo better to get a diesel Golf and run the VX for the fun times :grouphug:

Just been reading Evo. The Alfa 4C is not actually based on the X-Box chassis apparently but their own by the same concept (apparently likely to be shared with that Arbarth thingy). It's going to be a 2l with upwards of 220bhp and if it stays the same weight as the concept (840kg) should be pretty damn quick. Also the "convertible" will be a targa top with the rear of the coupe roof raised slightly to being it in line with the windscreen much like ours. Should be awesome and with prices looking like £45k a snip. My next car is either Noble M400, but I have just spent quite alot on the VX so not for a while. Wish I had taken the plunge on a Noble M12GTO 3r a couple of years back as I was planning before the VX because they have almost doubled in value since  Daily shed is being replace for an E30 325 Cabriolet for the summer hopefully :D
