Just been reading Evo.

The Alfa 4C is not actually based on the X-Box chassis apparently but their own by the same concept (apparently likely to be shared with that Arbarth thingy). It's going to be a 2l with upwards of 220bhp and if it stays the same weight as the concept (840kg) should be pretty damn quick. Also the "convertible" will be a targa top with the rear of the coupe roof raised slightly to being it in line with the windscreen much like ours. Should be awesome and with prices looking like £45k a snip.

My next car is either Noble M400, but I have just spent quite alot on the VX so not for a while. Wish I had taken the plunge on a Noble M12GTO 3r a couple of years back as I was planning before the VX because they have almost doubled in value since

Daily shed is being replace for an E30 325 Cabriolet for the summer hopefully :D

From what i understand the chassis is designed/engineered by Dallara.

Anyway, from memory i think the 4C comes with Alfa's DNA switch. For that reason, and that reason alone - I'm out!

Far from the snip it was originally talked about being. It'll be a £50k car by the time it reaches the UK and it's on the road. thumbsdown

I didnt know about the DNA switch, just read up on it. Why would they put it in a sports car that's made for performance and handling? Surely you wouldnt want to turn the handling down on a sports car!!!

If you've ever driven any Alfa with their DNA system you'll question the validity of having it in ANY car, never mind a sports car. Hateful piece of kit...

Does DNA stand for "Do Not Activate" then? I have never understood sport buttons etc. If I buy a sports car, I want a sports car!

Probably another VX to toy around with for a while! Then, well, whatever replaces the TT when I feel like replacing it!

So Ive had VXs for 3 odd years now and for me thats a freakin lifetime. I think I might sell the VX next year and get something a bit more "groen up" (ready to get flamed...). Ive been looking at a whole pile of stuff: 993 Porker, F355, Cayman, E46 M3 and I still love Esprits... It'll probably be an M3 though as the first three I cant actually afford and the last one will be less trustworthy than the VX. Whats everyone elses car over the horizon?

Yes when i get to old for a vx i may move on like you,but i am only 54 so a while off yet.Take it your a lot older."groen up"

Ha Ha!!! Imnotworthy Nicol is only 31, but he acts double that age. Eh old yin? :poke:

Youre a dick Bob, a dick... :P Have you got your free bus pass yet lad?

Its more restlessness than anything else. The option to have a super comfy but still fun/quick car really apeals to me but as has been said, its probo better to get a diesel Golf and run the VX for the fun times :grouphug:

Yes i know what your on about but can you get super comfy and fun or are they complete opposite.Went out in my FTO today for the first time in months, pressed a button to lower the window what a novilty ,nice to buzz it up to 8k ,comfy and no rattles but it will be on the front again and think i may get rid.Think you may miss your vx after a while if you went comfy.

Alfa not really a snip at 50k then! Looks nice though but very very doubtful of that weight either. Then again, they might have realised that is why the brera is so crap!

Some interesting posts there. Would love to think I will keep the VX forever, but unless the tide turns I worry they could obsolete themselves in the next 10yrs.

Supply of replacement parts by Vauxhall is shìt, at best, at the moment, god only knows how difficult getting a replacement clam, oil cooler adaptor gaskets  or headlights would be.

Also with the increase in interest and production of CF chassis... The VX/Elise ali tub is going to be heavy and old hat shortly and therefore will only remain as a heritage piece of Britains former automotive industry. The chasing of coat-tails that Lotus seem to be doing at the moment could easily see the death of them so supplies of the replacement shared parts could get very expensive as well.

Would love to be wrong!

As for the Alfa 4C chassis... If they got that right with a 200pony light weight rev happy Alfa engine that thing could be a riot to drive. Though the interior is a maybe a bit too 'Nissan Juke' for me... But I would forgive all for a Lotus standard chassis and a lively engine that looks even 80% as good as the press pics. Now if they could make all that and an Alfa 4C Cabrio I might just consider some medical testing!

I'm sorry, but i think that's utter rubbish! Yes, parts supply etc isn't great, but like any potential 'classic' car many places appear that offer like for like replacements.
Also, i think it's going to be many many years before CF chassis makes it's way into 'affordable' sports cars lke the VX. Yes, it may be starting to make it's way into high end supercars, and i think that's where it will stay for a good while. As cars get heavier and hevier, i think when people drive a VX after being in a modern car it normally blows them away. I have a mate who had a brand new V8 M3. I let him have a drive of the VX on track and a few weeks later the M3 was gone, and he was in an Exige. He was totally blown away.
I'm never selling the VX. Have always said that and i don't see any reason why i would. Had it 7 years now and i think it has become part of the family!
I see a few people mentioning the prancing horse as a potential replacement. Mine is going up for sale soon and i would be lying if i said i was sad to see it go, but the way VX drives, believe it or not, the 348 doesn't even really some close.....

Facelifted Mk3 MR2 spyder, collect it tomorrow - awarded 5 stars by EVO so can't be bad. I know its a downgrade, but more suitable for my use at present. I'll be back in a VX220 later in the year.

I've made the agreement with the Mrs that I must complete and then sell my MX5 track car before I get a VX track car :) Finishing the MX5 will be what puts the brakes on getting the next VX. I currently have 2 x mx5's, A6 Quattro, MR2 & a CB600FAA.. she's put her foot down - MX5's must go before new car arrivals. Fair really.

a 'mere' £35K would get a V8 Vantage now so they are p*ss cheap (in terms of what a new one costs)

Worth £35K just for that exhaust note!! would have to be manual mind, as the paddle shift is SH-T

I'll be keeping the VX for a while yet. The only other car that has really caught my eye is the new Morgan Three Wheeler! :drink:

Saw it at the Prescott Bike Festival last weekend. The v-twin engine sounds even better than I'd imagined, drowned out even the loudest bikes and could be heard all over the paddock whenever they fired it up. It sounds like a cross between a Spitfire and the end of the world.

Don't own a bike and I'm not particularly interested in them, I just went to see the new three wheeler and some original three wheelers. It was impressive to see the old three wheelers (that spent most of the day sitting in rapidly growing puddles of their own oil ) completely showing up all the bikes by being the loudest and most fun looking vehicles to roar up the hill, sliding around the bends and generally looking a complete riot to drive. It was hard to believe they were all over 60 years old (both the cars and the drivers ;))!

Cheap tax, 0-60 in 4.5s, probably over 50mpg. The RAF graphics, a bomber jacket and flying goggles are compulsory. Handlebar moustache and Brylcreem optional. Tally ho!
