Big update:

The engine has been stripped down ready for today by my dad over friday and saturday and now sunday was the day it all went back together and i have took a few picture of everything going back together so we have gone from a bare block today back up to a long block minus cams as i still need to purchase these.

only thing now holding me back from putting it in the car is for the inlet manifold and to buy the cams to get the engine ready to go back in still alot needed for the car but aslong as its got the engine back in it can go away for its jollys to nortech to get its make over.

so heres some pics for you guys:

Congrats Craig :) That Cometic gasket sure looks fat! Notice how it's waterway holes are radically different to the Elring one. Lets hope it all works flawlessly. What turbo spec (precisely) did you buy in the end ?

havent yet purchased a turbo mate think im going to go for the gtx3071 but unsure on .a/r rating yet aint spoke a great deal about it just getting the engine back together first need cams and inlet to get it finished then will worry about other things such as turbo exhaust manifold chargecooler and everything else. yer it is very thick to be perfectly honest the head gasket water ways dont look too be on first impressions one of the oil squirters hasnt been working from standard as it has a peice of silicone stuck in there but sorted now, thanks

Buy the EDS one if I were you, I've heard that it's as good as the Klassen one for 400 BHP. Even the Klassen one is a restriction above 450 BHP as the necks on the inlet runners aren't too much larger than OEM. Alternatively, ring up Alex at Pro-Alloy, he can fab you one up according to your spec for a good (chepaer) price most probably. The one on Waynes car make 500 BHP, so I know it works.... GTX30R71 is a big(ish) bugger - remember to only get a 0.3 or 0.5 bar spring in it. Make sure you tell Paul at RS not to max it out to 2.5 Bar or Ireckon you will make over 500 BHP even with no head mods! Remeber your pro-alloy intercooler will suffer (and possibly crack) if it takes a lot of high-boost fluctuations over time as it flexs. Even my beefy one is meant to only take 2.0 bar of boost, and Im not sure which 'version' you have in your car. Dont be tempted to get the smaller A/R hotside, if you do you may well suffer from heat problems as it bottles the EGs up and can cause craking in the manifold and possibly head overheating issues. It just not worth it for 200 RPM of ealier spool IMO. Did Jay promise to make the mani out of 321 steel BTW? 304 steel wont cut the mustard on a bigish power engine :(

yer im going to get an EDS one bin offered a second hand on for £450 but i have just got to wait for it to become avaliable :( yer could call around to see if pro alloy or nortech can make me one. yer thanks for that matey will get a 0.3 or 0.5 bar spring. oh thats good so you think get a.86a/r then mate? yer i will tell him the sort of power i am going for before he cranks it straight up dont really want to go anymore than 1.7bar boost tbh think that shud make over 400 easily enough. i havent yet spoke to jay a guy who i know has spoke to him and sorted it all out so once i ahve the funds avaliable i will have a very good talk with him to sort everything out anyone ever seen a nortech exhaust never seen one before?

I have a spare inlet manifold which I am going to have a play with - very similar to what PA do with the vag intake ;) Basically they use the original runners / flange / cut and weld to their revised intake bit chinky chinky Hope to have a play after collecting Gary's engine in the near future thumbsup DG

Corkey (Rich) on here has my old inlet stumps from my cut down of an OEM inlet and has made up a clay model for casting. It's a side firing design like Waynes and will eliminate a 180 degree bend for improved throttle response, with shorter, wider tapered runners. He's been too busy driving his VX recently and hopes to get the casting done once the winter sets in. Hopefully then, we can supply the VX and Astra community with something a bit cheaper than the £700 Klassen one !

The Klassen one works but very pricey for a very poor quality part. I used and EDS one recently and it seemed to match the flow of the klassen but was much nicer made, easier to package and better quality.

I've just had the EDS manifold and tophat fitted to mine, nice bit of kit and much better response.

Thats quite good that EDS send a phenoflectic (or whatever its called) gasket with the manifold. Shows a decent attempt to help VX owners fix a mild problem.

Craig, could you please weight the EDS manifold, just to compare with the Klassen one? Also, where did you buy the Dimplex Magnetic Sump Plug?

i cant sorry as its not on the vehicle but i would say its less than 3kg tbh its so light. what does the klassen one weigh?

i got mine from LMF mate think its just under £20 so really cheap

i have now also bought a set of klassen cams to get the engine all back together so the LET will be coming out of the vx220 this weekend and the leh will be going in so i can run it in for a few miles.

So engine is fully built up now just needs a few little bits swapping over and now the rear clam is off and the engine is ready to come out just got to undo the mounts next weekend and then the swap can begin also going to buy the chargecooler kit this week so while the rear clam is off i can get that fitted also. and thats about all for the time being.

not overly to be honest mate getting abit cold now and trying to sort out a unit is the main priority to put it in over the winter. but the engine is in and its turned over a few times perfect and new engine mounts on. thats is all really. still got a huge list of parts to get: Turbo Manifold Exhaust Wastegate Diff Chargecooler Clutch oh and also to get the fuelling sorted out also.
