Mega mega thirsty though.Anyone ever considered putting a rotary into a vx? A naturally aspirated triple rotor gives around 300 horses if you buy it from the right place, and a turbo triple easily gives 480, think they a relatively small block aswell and sounds incredible!!! Though I think they are quite heavy, but they also super smooth in the delivery

can you imagine Sutol with a rotary , he would have to get the dipstick moved to near the drivers seat.

Anyone ever considered putting a rotary into a vx?
Any engine that wasn't used in a transverse setup originally or can be 'massaged' to do so will be a pain to fit in the VX/Elise chassis.
It can be done, no doubt about it, but it will be a lot more complicated with things like a bespoke rear subrame, finding a suitable transaxle, wheelbase issues, etc. etc. and as a result quite costly and labour-intensive.
Same issue is stopping people from putting boxer engines (Subaru, Porsche, etc.) in the back of a VX/Elise. They don't want to go in transversely. Also, finding suitable transaxles is often a problem.
Like this V10 conversion it IS done in some cases. The Esthi (Elise with V6 Biturbo 2.7 from audi S4 done by a german firm) is an early case in point
and there was a (vapourware?) longitudinal V6 conversion for the VX AFAIK with wood-covered floors(?).
But they usually end up horribly expensive and tend to be commercial failures.
Some race cars also have various engines/subframes bolted onto the VX/Elise ali chassis. Lotus did it themselves with the original GT1 Elise:
And of course later with the GT300 Exige:
Privateer-wise there is (was?) at least one S1 Exige (or motorsport Elise) in scandinavia running a Formula 3 engine and rear end with a copy of the Exige rear end fitted over the back. But race cars are much simpler in this respect as you don't have to worry about 'road manners' and 'usability' as much
Bye, Arno.

Definitely thirsty, I use to just about squeeze 18 to a gallon out of my rex if I tickled it on a motorway, playin, and that was only a mildly tuned twin turbo twin rotor (the stock block), if I played properly was lucky to see about 6 or 7!!!Mega mega thirsty though.Anyone ever considered putting a rotary into a vx? The advantages of low CoG, compact packaging and optimisation of location in the chassis (i.e. very low and far back in the engine bay) that the rotary has, would be reduced to just having a slightly lower CoG compared to a modern all-alloy NA V6, which would be much easier to install, cheaper to buy, sounds better to most, and have reliablity and economy on it side.. I don't think you'll get a transverse gearbox to fit a rotary engine as it is quite wide around the crank level.
Plus, trying getting you're hands on a Mazda 20b engine...

I thought the extending of the rear clam would detract from the overall Elise shape, and be all out of proportions.
However I must say the back-end of the looks spot on, and the packaging of the twin exhaust boxes and gearbox is thoroughly superb.

Needs some audi mesh around the exhaust.
I know a bin somewhere in the UK with that

That is one handsome car, not often I make subjective comments, but this one is really worthy !
