Liam is a really nice guy. NOT AT ALL the kind of guy who could sell sand to the Saudi's. In fact quite the opposite. He is NOT the only person behind MMG. Kind regards, Paul

I recently took my car to Liam to have it's annual service and a few other changes and cannot fault him. He genuinely cares about the cars and knows them inside out. While mine was with him he fixed all sorts of niggles without even mentioning it too me (added spacers to one of the under tray to reduce rattles, welded up a blowing exhaust, fixed my cracked boot stay), all little things that I had been meaning to do for a long time but he took the time to do it. He is a specialist and you pay a price for that, but I would take the car to him every time over some monkey that doesn't know what they are doing and doesn't treat our fragile cars witht the care they need. He kept me up to date the whole time the car was with him. I've heard horror stories of people taking their cars to normal dealers and in the case of na's getting cracked cylinder heads. I would pay for the peace of mind of a specialist everytime.

Cars can be mapped without using a rolling road, it mostly depends on the software being used. It is a fact that some really good mapping takes place whilst driving a car on the road. A rolling road is only there to simulate road conditions which is does fall short of. I don't know if Liam does on road mapping but if he does then it is just as good as a RR session IMHO.

I did say I didn't know about Liam specifically.

I just know that in early CMS days when the company belonged to Chris Courtenay, I went out in his Cavalier 4WD (this was 1989 I think) which had been mapped on road (before they had a RR) and it was awesome. I remember it hitting the rev limiter in 5th, the first time I had ever seen a car hit the rev imiter in top gear and we were doing 150mph.

Good rolling road tuning should be able produce good results on the rolling road, - which is just what is required for rolling road "shoot outs". Good tuning by tuning the car on the highway should produce good results when the car is used on the highway. I am not saying that rolling road tuned cars cannot be good road cars too. My belief is that the success of the tuning is very much dependant on the motivation of the people involved. Liam is VERY motivated to offer an excellent service. King regards, Paul

WGT do both... A RR map and road finetuning for 350 plus vat. The guy will also turn up to a trackday to polish it under those conditions. Thats for rotarys mostly - from all over Europe - but i use it mentally as a benchmark.

A RR map and road finetuning

That's definitely the ideal. That's the way my last two Audi's have been mapped.

That's how mine was done too.

Although I didn't notice squat difference until 100 miles later, which opens up another can of worms I guess

With Engineering of most kinds it is important to open ones mind to options.

RR's do have a place within tuning, of that there is no doubt.

Also the validity and importance of further tuning from the RR session is of vital importance.

That is tuning the vehicle whilst driving it on the road.

To not do this is to miss a trick..........which seems quite daft after all the effort of getting thus far.

And one that many people simply do not bother with. I think that this is due to a lack of knowledge and being lead by the many. When in reality it is the few who go on to produce the outstanding results.

I have built many engines during my 40+ years of direct involvement with motor sport, both motorcycle and car.

I have worked on a one to one basis with John Sleath........... of www.john-sleath.com

Creator of............

The first street legal car to run 180mph on pump gas The first street legal car to break into the 7 second bracket in full street legal trim,(treads and pump gas) And many, many more firsts.

Less than a year ago we worked on a very special sbc 6300cc motor which I had built. We spent many hour refining the engine and RR tuning. The engine was a "corker". I was very pleased as was John with the result.

However, even though John is also a sbc specialist of many years standing.

We gained so much more from the drivers situation by spending some more hours of "real-world" on street tuning to back up the RR work.

So. If you also find yourself with a "corker" of a RR tuned motor. I will say........then spend a bit more time with a competent tuner on the road. You may just surprise yourself with what you can achieve.

"SO".

I've already said this. But the op has posted a review of a product / service. And its gone off at a tangent again. IMHO discussions about mapping and dyno'ing should be had in a seperate thread. That said the review should be member reviews section

I do not want to discuss what I paid for the job. Lets just say that it was a very fair price - especially when the time Liam dedicated to the job is considered. I would recommend that you speak to him - Im sure he will look after you and believe me, you will like the end result. :tt:
