Can't do that as my cam cover is plastic, so all I've done is make another breather. What's the difference?

As I understand it the oily gases from the engine blowby pass by a series of baffles within the cam cover to remove the majority of the oil that is in suspension prior to venting. The venting is done at the opposite end of the cam cover after the baffling. Try it and see, if you start to get a lot of oil spraying out of the filter you'll know.

I have that already as it previously vented into my intake filter. When this was full of oil it then dripped down the front of the engine and all over the undertray.

Sounds like you need an oil separator in the breather pipe and that all gets a bit messy

Did Goodwood the other day and noticed fine oil all over the rear of my car. Have now checked and its all over the underneath of the diffuser section where the breather pipe is. Its obviously a fine mist thats built up but its still fairly thick.

How do I solve this one, as I had hoped this was the best place for this pipe, but not sure now, and is it normal to breath out so much?

What oil are you using Martin? I've seen barely a drop out of my breather in 3 years.

Because my oil is going somewhere (well, depending on the mood of the dipstick and the strength of the earth's gravitational field), just not out of the breather. Total an expensively uprated engine in the way I did and see how often you check the oil.

It was no criticism. I'm already paranoid!

I deffo caught it off Techie. Martin, you've told me you do a litre on a TD, looks like you've found where it goes. My breather discharges in front of the OS wheel arch and like Techie its dry, no oil. but as you know my car does pong a bit. If you haven't lost any noticeable power then don't worry about it, just keep checking your oil just in case the usage creeps up. If you want to investigate further get a compression test and a leak down test done. BOT can do that for you.

Just had a service at Back on track and they suggested I changed from the previously recommended 0-40 t0 10-40, which they think suits our cars better. It did seem to lose less this time, but most of it does seem to be under my diffuser and on the back of my car. Martin

I used 3/4 litre which I thought was OK considering the amount of track time we had. The fuel bill hit an all time high as well. I was concerned that the oil was leaving the breather, so I inspected the area behind the side grille where mine discharges to. It was very dry and not oily, I was expecting my hand to come out dripping with oil but nothing :? What is worrying is that your oil may be going all over the track which ain't good. What with noise attenuators being fired out the back and oil slicks I think i'll keep my distance on track

I have a 1/2L catch pot on mine and its empty after 2 years. Nought out of the breather. I am on OE bore breater hose though, none of the -12 fittings for me. I do get a very occasional whiff of crankcase fumes though.

I had a oil ctach tank and it would fill up with emulsified oil in a couple of hundred miles, so gave up on that and added a filetr, but that let a mist of oil over the area it was in so tried this. The amount is very fine and would not get on track, its primarily just on the diffuser in that area with a very light mist over the rear. It just seems mine is breathing too well! I did more sessions than ever at Goodwood and it went through about half its normal loss, so hapy with the way its going otherwise. Martin s
