Ok iv just changed the gearbox engine mount on vx tubby but have come to a problem, the old mount was a big heavy mount but the one from auto vaux was smaller and lighter, carried on fitting it finished the job took it 200yds and BANG!!! Grrrr coffee noise, took it apart and has split the mount clean in half. im pretty sure its not the mount failing as it is half an inch smaller then the one i took out?? and the engine when not supported does not sit on mount?? Has anyone come across this problem.?

There are 4 mounts, which ones precisely are you talking about. From the sounds of it, you have been supplied the wrong part...

I received two engine mounts from Auto vaux, left side and right side both identical, pretty sure they were the right parts (I fitted them with frankandbeanz last night) I've spoken to Auto vaux today and they said it's the right part.... very puzzled at the moment, the near side was defo different size oming out but teh off side one was exactly the same, they had two different types of engine mount in one side to the other....

Sounds strange - those are 100% the correct top mounts for both turbo and n/a What is the current setup with the bottom 2 gearbox mounts? Maybe they need slacking off to let the engine sit flat on the top mounts and then tighten back up? DG

Assuming they are still fine on Matts car, my Autovaux mounts lasted at least 4 years/50+K miles.....

Equally joking aside mine were fine. I assumed they are OEM ones for AVX - or not?

Autovaux have been very good over this immediate replacement sent out and also they assured me this has never happened with one of there mounts.. again im sure its not a failing mount it has split due to engine not sitting on mount.

oe top mounts as we know are not the best - certainly beefing up the bottoms help but the only true solution is the vibratechnics upgrated items but not cheap DG

The front and rear mounts aren't adjustable. Not sure the nearside mount supports the engine in any meaningful way anyway. There's no need to support the engine when changing the nearside, so that says it not bearing any real weight (and is probably why it moves around so much and breaks in the first place).
