I no there's been a lot of posts on brake pads in the past but they have been related more to track use. Since il be soon at stage 4 I've decided I really need to invest in some decent pads.Im currently on Ebc red stuff...yes there not great but the only thing I like about them is there low dust. Im looking for Something with a good solid initial bite from cold and low dust suitable for fast road use I guess a good all rounder tbh. I was originally thinking of cl5+ but with some of the horror story's I'm not sure I want to chance it unless this has been resolved? Thanks in advance :)

I echo ArticMonkey, YorB had Pagids on Vince and I was impressed with their initial bite.

Don't blame you on the cl5+. I was one of the horror stories with it coming away from the backing plate, pity because they are a great pad otherwise, however there is no sign this has been resolved. The CL6 appears to be bonded better. Pagids are awesome. Probably overspecced for the road and you pay for that! They're not cheap. Could also consider Mintex 1155, very good road pad indeed.

Do you NEED to change the compound... if you like what you have and aren't finding their limits, why change?

Nope, this is true, I don't NEED to change, I like the 1155's, but from the passenger seat the pagids felt awesome so thought I'd give em a punt next, just 'cause, well, why not :)

Pagids may give a different feel to the 1155's that I might prefer. Gotta try these things I guess.

I found the limits of 1155s, but only in my Saxo at Donington, where braking is exceptionally heavy coming into the chicane. It's not a heavy car but brake cooling is poor and discs relatively small. In the VX220 I never suffered brake issues on 1155s, although never tried Donington. On the road you will never get near the limits for 1155s.

Done.

What's the difference between the 2? I presume there brake dust friendly? Do these tend to be quite noisy or am I getting them mixed up with some others?

Buy 1155's, you'll be happy with them. Pretty cheap but a good pad for what you want/need.

This is what I am running at the moment. Huge upgrade on standard/ebc garbage and the dust wipes off without wheel cleaner. My ABS 'Ice mode' symptoms have also been greatly reduced since I swapped from M1144's

I do but the 'requirements' of the OP, aside from needing the pads to be shiny , were that they are for road use and CL5+'s being noisy fuckers wouldn't pass the test.

The 5+'s do pass the 'leave the brake dust on for over a year without a wash and it comes off completely with a little bit of effort' test :)

Not much, a about £10-15 in price but the RS14's are more track focused.

I don't get much brake dust at all TBH and it cleans off with a sponge everytime.

Great bite from cold on the 14's and on track I'm yet to push them to their limits.

I get some small amount of squeal when they are warm at first gear 5mph speed. Small price to pay mind.

Aimy, please be ware that some of these fast road/track pads need a lot of warming up. If you dont get them up to their operational temps they don't work so well. For example if you were on the motorway for a few minutes and then try and do an emergency stop you could find they don't work 1/2 as well you'd hope as they were stone cold.

The M1155's need one press of the brakes and then they work very well. They are also very ggood value for money - Camskill were doing Front and Rear pads with discs for £200 + Delivery Imnotworthy thumbsup
