Love my CL5's :)

They must have had a 'bad' batch - shouldn't happen I know - but I'll continue to use them as can't think of anything better for my needs.

I can.

Any that don't fall to bits.

At the National your brakes seemed good, granted we were going faster than I normally can,ok we were going sh*t loads faster (enjoyed that by the way) but not "omg that awesome" braking.Obviously you know your car, would you say they are that good over others its worth risking a catastrophic fail

At the National it was my fluid letting me down not the pads! Some 'Super Blue' in now tho & they are a lot better!

I've heard the horror stories here & on SELOC about the CL5's but *personally* have never found a better pad not that I've tried every pad out there tho but Chris @ Hofmanns still recommends them as his pad of choice also I believe and he has tried everything!

There was an issue with CL5's of that I'm sure, but I'm also sure it was 'batch' related and behind them now, as said it shouldn't happen, especially on a product such as brakes and I can see why people wouldn't touch them with a sh!tty stick! but having used them 'before' the reports of them failing came through and already having confidence in them I've kept using them.

They're billet rather than castings like the crappy AP 4 pots ;-)
- Seriously they're a bit low rent but work very well indeed, dont weigh much either.

Didn't you say further up they are turning pads into wedges? That would suggest either piston force differes hugely across each caliper or the caliper itself is flexing.

My man in the know said he will not put anything on any of his race / track cars unless it's been prooven through use on touring cars or similar - hence Alcon calipers, Hawk pads etc.

He wins races.

My point was the AP 2 pots also turned pads into wedges. The difference being the 2 pots would eventually seize. Of course i would swap for AP 4 pots if it was free. My stock rear calipers used to do it too. All well and good taking a hard line on these matters but sadly im not a man of infinite resources. In that case i could just have vx looking clams grafted onto a Venom GT and turn up at the 2013 national....and turn its brake pads into wedges. :-)

even porsche, it is very common for gt3s to create a wedge pattern in the pads the leading edge most wear, and comparing top to bottom , the bottom ( nearest hub centre) also tapers

I've just had new 1155s and plain discs from camskill and I must say the stopping power is impressive. It's OK on the first press (still better than what I had before) but once they have some heat they are incredible, and I'm still just bedding in. My frame of reference is only the corroded discs and rock hard pads that have been on for the three months since I bought it, and also being a passenger in my brothers VX with 1144s, but very pleased so far.

What do you mean 'still bedding them in'..... Should be done in one hit and then just abuse the fcuk out of them :)

my 2 cents - if you are never going to track 1144s are the best value brake pad for fast road, you wont get them hot enough on the road to get the to fade - they are also quiet compared to some of the more track focused pads if you are going to track once a year max 1155s should be fine and offer similar performance to 1144 but can work at higher temps. if you are going to track regular then pick a more track foucsed pad but I'm sure 1144 or 1155 are fine for you Aimy :)
