OBD will not tell you much.

It told us nothing. There's definitely something electrically weird happening.

No stored ecu codes? I remember something that the pump sequence will be disturbed if the 68mm LSJ TB is wired up wrongly. (There's a wrong conversion manual around.)

No, nothing at all. Like no power from the ECU to the OBD port at all, kind of nothing. I think Vocky adjusted this loom so pretty sure he'll have got the throttle body side of things correct. Though it's definitely something to check tomorrow. It definitely "feels" like an earthing problem of some form and my guess is it's still something to do with the wiring between the X2/X3 connectors and the K16/K18 relays. Like you said earlier, it's like the ECU starts to power up the systems and suddenly gets to a point with the fuel pump circuit side of things that makes it say "no way, I'm not going any further".

I am slightly more relaxed than I was a few hours ago, Thanks Matt for your input. as you said it's almost as if it self checks then goes no further, one thing I did notice during this check on the stack is the park brake light dimly flashes, when the lcd display goes blank, maybe nothing but It is strange, I think the first thing to do is to add some extra earth wires, maybe even to the battery itself to see it makes any difference. My wife is saying sell up I will try a bit longer though,

I would start with measuring the relevant power pins in the X2 & X3 connectors.
My NA pin list; just 5 power pins to check and the ecu grounding:

X2 connector (blue 13 pin)

1 +12V from Power Relay K18 back to Z22SE ecu
2 Rev signal from ECM
3 2nd CAT
4 2nd CAT
5 "key-switched" 12V signal to ecu
6 2nd CAT
7 2nd CAT 12v supply
8 Ecu +12V signal to Fuel Pump Relay K16 (white violet)
9 Coolant T signal from ecu to Stack (PWM)
10 nc
11 nc
12 ECM earth switched control for Power Relay
13 ECM switched earth control for FAN relay

X3 connector (black 13 pin)

1 Pedal sensor 2 Low ref
2 Pedal sensor 1 5V ref
3 Pedal sensor 1 Signal
4 Pedal sensor 1 Low ref
5 Pedal sensor 2 5V ref
6 Pedal sensor 2 Signal
7 nc
8 Oil pressure light (gnd switched)
9 IMO / DIAGN line (immobiliser/OBD connector)
10 MIL signal to Stack
11 Speed signal from ABS to ecu
12 nc ---
13 Battery +12v power supply to ecu (thick wire)

Ground = ECU body casing gnd

From memory the X connectors are pinned like this:

13 12 x 11 10
9 8 x 7 6
5 4 3 2 1

Any chance the pairing with the chip in that key is lost?
Try the other key.

PS. I'd happily swap you for a 55k 2008 Focus 1.6TDCi in Electric Blue... Mel is owt for the next 2-3hrs and if she saw a VX parked on the drive when she got back I'd just accuse her off being more drunk than she most likely is going to be.

Then as the hangover kicks in tomorrow, blame it all on her, saying that she brokered the deal with someone in town.

I would be checking the battery terminals first, seems like when a load is applied to the electrical circuit it dies - bad connection somewhere ? The tb wiring was done one wire at a time, so should be okay

I did check the connections to the battery terminals and they were all good but negative disconnected now as there sounded like there was a leak of some form, maybe to the alarm circuit.
