Aftermarket ones are made of grp with internal reinforcement of cor mat.

Coremat is a non-structural layer! :o

It is designed to separate layers to improve rigidity (and save cost). The crashbox needs to be tough as well as rigid. Check what MVS make theirs from if you cant find OE.

MVS are the only aftermarket option. Nobody else makes them and safety issues aside, unless they've improved the fit of them, I wouldn't bother (after seeing the state of the two halves that Courtenay where trying to get to vaguely meet up anywhere, once on the car). Much as I don't want to recommend UK Lotus Centre, I'd be buying their one off eBay (after seeing some more pictures) and cutting off the inevitable bit of chassis still bonded to it after they cut it off the car, if I wasn't prepared to buy a new one direct from Vauxhall/Opel.

I miss something (at least), that crashbox is not OEM, or am I distracted... ¿?

...and cutting off the inevitable bit of chassis still bonded to it after they cut it off the car...

Don´t understand... seems aftermarket...

Pretty sure its the same part from Lotus so don't buy from vauxhall or it will prob be on back order. For me i would always buy a brand spanker if i was going to keep the car. Don't know if i could live with the thought of the consequences if i bought a replica and sold the car on!

¿Pretty sure is the same as elise/exige S2?
What consequences?

*I agree on OEM crashbox, I´m waiting for some pics from a vx220 user, who has a vx220 (second hand) to spare.

I sent a message to uklotuscentre when I was in the market for a crashbox, and they are definitely MVS ones. Liz had one available a couple of months ago, might be worth seeing if it's still going.

this is why you should never buy or fit an aftermarket crashbox
