Hi all, Ive spent the last couple of days reading all of the tyre threads and reviews, that includes on here, pistonheads and I even had a look on seloc. Best price wise seems to be Federal RS-R at £335 full set - (only 5-6mm new and will use alot on the road) Best for value and length of use Kumho KU39 at £275 full set - (get 8mm but less grip for occasional track day) Lots of reviews say Kumhos are great, but no reviews for how they perform on track. Lots of reviews saying the Federals are great on track, but no review on if they warm up on the road. I really want to track the car a few times but I really want to drive it every weekend and to work occasionally. All help and guidence appreciated, WANT TO BUY TONIGHT! cheers Jack

Different tyres altogether. KU39 - semi ok all round summer tyres - will overheat on a dry track. RSR - "semi-semi-slicks" - track tyres, don't work in wet or cold. I've used both ku31 and rsrs (but not 39s)

39's are softer than the 31's only slightly i would buy the 39's or ad08 but there a fair bit more i will be sticking a set of 39's on mine this month, mines gets tracked afew times a year not fussed about getting everthing from the car just having fun, its also daily driven too

Yeah I was thinking the 39's will be no good on a track, Any ideas on happier medium?? Are Toyo T1R's a no no? a few local elise owners love them but unsure if they track their cars, and they havent got 250bhp.

The next down in the Federal range is the 595 Evo, Thats supposed to have 6mm and big shoulder blocks, anyone used these?

I used T1Rs last year on track. Ok grip but when pushed hard the side walls would flop and you would just drift. I've just bought a set of the federals but will be putting them on a second set of TD wheels. Which leaves me with my T1Rs for winter/wet track. Thought your mum bought the car off you?

i used my 31's which arnt suppose to be as grippy of the 39 doing laps of the ring and a track day at the gp circuit there

had no issues car was fine and the tyres didnt overheat

yes a n/a, you will drive more on the road than track so i would sway my bias towards a road tyre if i were you

my kit car on the other had runs on r888 as its not really a road car

I have looked at them, but seem to be a dead match for the RS-R's? Are they not overkill for the roads?

Yeah in the ideal world I would have two sets of wheels but cant afford it just yet. Think R1R's come in around £450 a set so 30-40% more than RS-R

Just moved from 39s to Ad08s. They coped fine on track, but Ad08s are obviously better. As above 39s are an ok, middle of the road tyre. Struggled when really pushing, but the speed that the instructor took me around Snetterton on the 39s made me think we'd got in a different car. Unless you've done alot of trackdays then they'll be totally fine to start off with.

They're great on the road, I use mine all year round and they're much better in the wet than the standard Bridgestones. Don't see any point in skimping on tyres, they're the only thing that keep you attached to the road.

Yeah I think 39's will be fine for me after that comment, this year will probably be my learning to drive the vx on track year and enjoy it, then next year will be a good time for me to buy a second set of wheels with track tyres. Dont want to skimp out and I am willing to spend upto £90 a corner which I thought would buy good enough grip. Artic- would wait for your review but I'm going to buy tyres tonight, Insure tomorrow, then MOT and tax Friday. Cheers for the discussion people
