Had a conversation with two instructors about tyres. First said it's easier to learn on road tyres as track orientated tyres are more forgiving, allowing you to drive crap lines and get away with it. Second said that he preferred driving on road tyres as liked the car moving around, made it more fun. -_-

I thought i would go against the grain and I'm running the new Bridgestone RE002's and really like them. They have a really hard sidewall so initial turn in is fantastic and they make the car feel a bit more hardcore. Wet grip is really good, I haven't managed to find the limit yet. They are more road biased, never been on the track so can't comment on that aspect. If your near Essex your welcome to try them on your car.

Can't remember exactly, but think they were roughly £400ish fitted. They were middle ground price wise between KU39's and AD08's.

I'm on ku39s, done brands and Spa on them and they performed admirably, obviously not as well as semi slicks but enough to generate 1.1+ lateral Gs. Take a look at the g meter in the video in the thread. http://www.vx220.org...page__hl__rouge I will probably try the ad08s next time around out of interest.

Good choice, i've done a complete trackday on my KU39's and I was astonished... Value for money! Might not be the best track tire, but a all rounder for sure!

The fact the 39's are about half the price as the 08's but are still mentioned (roughly) in the same breath is quite impressive.

I haven't tried the KU39's but I have done 5 track days now all on KU31's and they performed fine (for my novice skills). It was only on my last outing at Anglesey that I really felt I wanted something a little grippier. Oh and after 5 track days and a couple of thousand miles there is still 4mm of tread left :)

Are the KU36's still available? What size did they come in in the 16?

Yeah ku36 seem a good price @ £90 each for the rears, but they'd definately rub on the front. Time for the insurance ring round now.... Joy !

Try Classic line, beat CCI and unlimited TDs UK and International. Downside they don't do no claims

Just gone with sky insurance again, adrian flux got close and cci wanted 200+ more but included 6 track days, still kills me paying insurance when Ive never claimed in the last 8 years!

RSR - "semi-semi-slicks" - track tyres, don't work in wet or cold.

Can't agree. Using these for about 9 months now and have worked well in both conditions. Also seem quite resistant to aqua-planing, and thus would have no worries about driving the car in heavy rain.

Go with 235 rears and you get 6.5mm trad from new.
