The lotus OEM size

195/50/16 (OEM renaultsport clio tyre)
225/45/17 (various OEMs as a Conti sport contact 2, including BMW and merc)

That means that whislt they are a fairly old tyre now (though a comparative newbie compared to RE040 or AO48 for that matter) they are still being made, so you can get recently made tyres. The CLK is also on CSC2s which was also the OEM tyre and which is still widely available now.

It also won all the tests of the time (yes yes, evo are biased blah blah blah) but they've got a great reputation, much better than, say, khumo or marshall. I think they're not popular here because they are quite expensive. And for the difference in price you might go for the very capable AD08 with its stupid front profile and slightly odd steering as a result. There was a VXT at BoT with them on TD on a normal ride height. Looks daft. ANd i'm quite impressed with them on the CLK

The rears have been discontinued in the SC2 but a new version in a 94V will soon be in production although not approved for sale as yet

I've just ordered some sportcontact 5's for my st. Was reluctant about the 2's because of the age.

but they won't be old tyres, they are still making them. They are an older design, but no one really believes that these things move on particularly fast. change the pattern and release a new one - job done.

Its funny, nearly 15 years ive been selling tyres and not once do I remember a company/rep saying their current production tyre is worse than its predecessor (despite the rest of the market knowing many that are/were)

Might look ok on your silly wheels :P

don't look right or feel 100% to me - just making that clear.

Anyway trying something different is fun too. i tried the AD08s, as one of the first on here (i think) and made my own mind up. In the same way that i have Ferodo DS2500 all round (on 4 pot APs) which i think are absolutely fantastic, but goes against what some on here prefer.

My long term plan is to nick the wheels and tyres off Lees car (ATS DTCs), but I forgot my trolley jack when I was at Silverstone.

I thought the switch to a 7j 16 inch wheel was supposed to 'open the door to a plethora of amazing tyre options'. Bollocks does it

I had some KU39's fitted this afternoon to the rears To say they are 'lively' before scrubbed in is an utter utter understatement. The back end is totally detatched from the front, in a really not good way. More miles needed methinks. I've never felt the car so unbalanced after a new set of rears, but I never mix fronts to back (KU31's on the front)
