Buy in fully with what you are doing Steve and the fun of building your own car is a tough one to beat.
Eyes wide open is the only way to approach this, I have built a kit car and there are numerous issues when things don't fit, parts are not available, the donor car won't come apart, you have to make your own wiring loom etc. All part of the fun though.
