all I can say is , I wish I had bought the VX 10 years earlier.
if you defer the being sensible and just save £166 from you monthly budget then you arrive at back at £20K in 10 years , but get to enjoy the best of your best years now.

It's good to practice either on track, Car limits days or Tesco car park.
I went out when the heavens opened on 888s at Snetterton.
To control the slide I tried to keep the power in a bit, but I found it difficult to have a smooth throttle when getting tank slapped consequently slightly over correcting. This was on standard seats (which I find way too big for me). I now have a decent bucket seat that fits and the difference in feedback when you're properly strapped in is phoenomenal.

My 33 year mortgage is virtually gone and I still feel young enough to enjoy it!by the time the mortgage is done, you will be too old to enjoy the spare cash

I'm actually probably going to put £20K into a mortgage and use the extra £5K I have to start a 7 type self build (I've always wanted to build a car from the ground up)
I've been in talks with a company about one of these
Track only version
what is it a roadrunner?

It is a Roadrunner. I quite like the idea of going to a 160bhp N/A that weighs 500kg. I can then focus on my driving to try and extract 100% out of it.

What made you (potentially) settle on the Roadrunner Steve? I've been up to the Stoneleigh and Newark kit car shows in the last month or so and the ranges of 7 based cars just do my head in. Everybody and their aunt seems to have a version of the 7 and all seem to reckon theirs is the best, though some are pretty ropey looking even to my untrained eye.

The total cost is slightly over £12K. The first phase, chassis (inc cage), bodywork, suspension (wishbones, dampers etc) , pedal box etc. is £5K. It will take me a few months to get that together then I'll have a few more K to spend on the brake and fuel system package and I'll keep doing that until it's done.
I've got my eyes wide open on this one
ETA - I've even included costs to get the kit delivered to me before I get a trailer.

Matt - To start with I quite like the look of the RR, as far as 7's go it's deffo a looker The company is local-ish to me and the service seems to get very high praise. I like the fact it's based on an MX5 so there will be no issues with reliability and noise testing.
Plus the MX-5 has a healthy tuning scene so when it comes to brake pads, disks, diffs etc there will be plenty of decently priced options.

i agree tbh,
you will not loose money on a caterham, plus get a road legal one as resale would be loads easier
once its built its going to be worth alot less than it cost to build thats the downside to a kit as such

I know I could buy a used one for a decent amount less but as I said I've always wanted to build a car. Buying a used Westie/Caterham would not let me enjoy that process.

I absolutely agree!! If it was my monies for a kit car, I'd love to build the hawk stratos. And with the 3.0 Alfa v6, oh my god what a beautiful noise!!What made you (potentially) settle on the Roadrunner Steve? Plus I really want one with a full cage which cuts the Caterfileds down to a very small expensive few and add to the fact that after I've put the money into the mortgage I'll only have 5K not 12K. The beauty of a self build for me is the ability to purchase it in stages as opposed to saving up for 6 months and giving me nothing to do in that time.
