Guys,
I wouldn't stress about if it will be registered or not. Firstly, I don't plan on selling any time soon. Secondly it is already a write-off from before...
Picked up the Clam from jonneyboy this morning...

Yep. Just dropped the Clam off to your man on Marina Road. He's booked up at the moment, but should be able to take the car in a week or so. I need to pick up a passenger door next. Will try and PM ElizP987 etc. unless anyone has other suggestions.
How hard is it swapping the locks over ?
By the way, if anyone needs to transport front clams. Get a Chrysler Voyager (2001). Take the rear seats out and it fits fine...

Really easy to swap out the locks, if you take the plastic cover off the side of the door you will have full access to the locking mechanism. I think you need a 8 or 10 mm hex socket to remove.

Blimey, these doors are heavy. I thought these cars were supposed to be light...

Saw the 911. I asked about it and got the impression he was sick of it. I assume it's been giving him trouble...
Just waiting for some turbo ears and rear spoiler and I start annoying him.

Bad news. Had a proper look at the headlight. Removed the lens and although the lens itself is OK (though a bit scratched), looks like the shock has loosened things up a bit inside.
Lights are not firmly in place, moved around and had some rattles. Bits below...
Lights themselves seem fine. Just the locating points.
I reckon it should be possible to position and fix in place with a suitable epoxy adhesive etc. but could be tricky.
Suggestions ?

Just to add, most of it just looks like unimportant debris, but I'm curious what the 2 rings are ?

Here's some pixies of a belgian guy doing some repair work on the mount points:

Lights out, and rear removed by baking to gain access though.

Interesting, Thanks.
So you can disassemble it... Not sure yet if I need to risk it. Anyone able to advise/translate on 'Baking' steps. Is a Heatgun an option ? Are we working with tigerseal again ?
Google translate so far 80 degrees 20 mins...

I did mine not so long ago, took two crap headlights and made one decent one, it's not too hard, fiddly and time consuming but not difficult if you have some common sense!
I just put mine in the oven on the lowest setting, you'll soon get the hang of how much heating is required to remove the glue, obviously doing small bits at a time, reheating, repeating etc.

A bit more detail about fixing the headlights.
I've deconstructed one headlight to as part of my efforts to produce new ones, the headlights are made up of three parts; the lens cover (obviously), the centre section and the rear cover. The rear cover is bonded on using a black polyurathane glue much like tigerseal, so removing the rear should follow the same approach as removing the lens - in the oven at a very low temperature, put a flat head screw driver to separate the two parts, and re-heat if the glue starts to get hard.
Once you have the rear off you can re-seat the projector units and bond with a two part epoxy.

I'd wager it won't be registered.... As Mr bird said, a third party cannot formally write the car off in the traditional sense. They can deem the repair uneconomical and just give you the cash though. Happened to me
Well I've not used my insurance at all. Informed them and then 3rd party were so quick, I contacted mine and they said they would just close/cancel it.
But from my point of view, it really doesn't matter if it is registered. Since it already is. Or at least I think it is, I didn't actually check since I was already working on the basis it was. I should check really...

Thanks. Good job I'm not planning on selling it
I wonder if the number of times it is registered effects the value

Are the remains of old clam worth anything at all ? seen one advertised on ebay for £350, but that doesn't mean someone will actually buy it...
