Presumedly you get it checked out before you accept in case it is actually fubard?

I know it's not seriously foobard. I drove it to and from the Vauxhall dealer it felt ok.
Ah didn't realise that. I guess chassis damage would be the main concern.

as a previous owner of 009 and a recent clam-mangler i'd be happy to donate my front clam section that miraculously has the sections you smashed intact?

I personally went for a JB special but just throwing that option out there - i'm sure its pretty common to chop the good/bad bits in and out?

Doing that sounds messy. But I'll look into it...

Looks fine apart from the crusty Bilsteins. If there is any damage, it'll only be to a wishbone by the look of it, so no problem.

Bloody bargain but take the wheel off so you can have a good look at the chassis and the wishbones Could be possible the wheel may be buckled but they are fairly easy to come by used If you can get nearly 5k and keep the car that's great as clam (jonny boy ) and a second hand door looks like all it really needs decent local bodyshops and back on the road in a couple of weeks with the much waited for respray 😄 you could even consider buying a local car with a short mot to get around in there are plenty around for less than £400 in leicester

Looks fine from here! It's funny how things work out, you will get the respray you wanted and you may as well get some fresh Exige Bilsteins while you're at it, yet still have the money you have been putting away for the respray :) On another note, a colour change isn't as sacrilegious now as it is Cat-C, so it's original/virgin LY credentials have taken somewhat of a hit Things are looking up thumbsup

Just a couple of pointers, all IMO of course :)

This isn't a 'write off' situation.  This is a claim against a third party.  Only your insurer can 'write off' your car under their contract with you.

You have a claim to have your car repaired, capped at the actual value of the car.  If you agree a deal with the third party's insurer, they may seek to include your car as salvage, but that's up to you.

They want to settle quickly, as their liability ceases once payment is made. Up until that time, they are liable for your losses arising from the incident.  In other words, to keep you mobile, i.e. a hire car.  Don't get rid of this car merely because you need transport.  Tell the other side you need transport, I'll wager there will be a hire car on your drive within the hour.

You're in the box seat.  Take the money for a 'proper' repair, DIY, pocket the difference. It's a win win.

can you take the money for the repair? Wouldn't they want to just pay for the repair directly?

No, there is a big difference between a claim on your insurance, which is regulated by your contract with the insurance company, and a claim against a third party, which is a pure negligence claim.

4,7k seems a bit low to be honest (looking on autotrader) :) not even a LY on there right now closest to your spec is up at nearly 8k so there putting the salvage value at 3.3K which seems a little steep to me? I'd try haggling with them some more?

I managed to get mine back last year for 1k salvage value (needed new front and rear clam) and 8k in my pocket

It's £4.7k cash, plus the car. That values it at more like £7k (depending on how much they think they'd get for the car at auction).

I thought it was 4700 cash plus keep the car which seems a reasonable deal

I assume in this case the car still gets registered as a Cat D?

I'm in a similar position.

Not so sure this is the case.  If the insurer does not take title to the vehicle, it's simply a payment against a claim, not against the value of the car.
