Can someone please try 215 / 245 ad08 or R1R to see how much they rub. Falkens don't rub but my car isn't that low to be honest and I still reckon they could rub on compression on track. Was tempted to go 205/235 to save any hassle or cutting sills.

Dave H has ad08's on, seemed fine to me. Was mrsimbas car originally and I was going to make him some arch liner recess plates but he found it was ok and didn't need them. My advice is if you want to be sure of no rubbing go with 205/45 and 235/40, if you go for the 215/45 and 245/40 you have to be prepared to accept possible rubbing or make mods, you might get away with it but dont expect to. Rears too unless you have at least -2 deg camber you are prob not going to be able to run lower than 130mm at rear. (Low enough for a road occasional track car imo) Remember too not all 245 or 215 tyres are the same width/dia. 888's are bigger than most so more normal tyres may need less or no modding.

I thought Simbas car was 205/235 though, not 215? The tyres in the rims at the moment are falken 452 in 215/245 and to be fair they don't rub. I bought arch cut out things just in case but now thinking I'd rather avoid fitting these as its a irreversible mod. Not sure if the VX is a keeper or just another year or so, and so cutting holes in my sills may put future buyers off.

Not entirely sure whats on Daves car now. best to ask him direct. The cut out mod can be done with some descrete and tidy looking carbon or black fibreglass plates. I made my own. Although some have used very cheap methods too, which give way more than you need, we are talking about a few mm recess here.

Not the best picture and can prob do better with more time spent on them, aprox 160mm X 80mm. Also the arch liner can be made to just slide behind it and it could be flushed into the sill if wanted.

I want to get my wheels painted in anthracite. I've ordered silver ones. Can anyone give any advice on this or recommend anywhere in Sussex to do it?

I'm going to ask this lot http://www.wheelworksuk.co.uk about it.

All the places I have found so far centre around a refurb service. Since these wheels are brand new, do they still need to be dipped/stripped to repaint? And what's the opinion on powder coat vs wet paint finish?

Cheers.

Steve, i believe that's where Dawso got his wheels done recently and was very pleased with the results, A guy i work with has also used them and over a year later his are still looking great.

As for the other questions i don't know i'm afraid.

Appearance wise painted (although on thin spokes you'de hardly tell the difference) powder coating is a lot stronger IMO

I have 195 16  R1R's and they rub now, as do my 888's but only when on track on tight bends, but already know that I wont be going anywhere near 215's on the front.

Just done some quick searching and it seems couldnt get 888's or Kumho V70's for the front unless I went for 205 40 17 instead of the recomended 45's.

Costs at the mo seem to be -

Toyo 888

205 40 17   £440 for 2

235 45 17   £482 for 2

Total £992

Kumho V70A medium

205 40 17 £278 for 2

235 45 17  £318 for 2

Totalm £596

I want these as my summer/track wheels, considering R1R's as theyre great (have a set on my other wheels) and seem to be notably cheaper on sites like mytyres than the 888's but know I'd rather be on 888's than them most of the time on track.

When I was looking only 3 weeks ago, I was definitely more limited than previously, many sizes not available in 888 or V70A that were there last time I bought a set. Although it mostly seems to be stocking rather than them not being made anymore. Or perhaps they are moving over to the likes of the AD08R, R1R as there was talk of the semislicks being banned on the road.

Martin if I were in that position I would consider a road set and track set rather than summer/track set. Then you can get away with a smaller tyre all round with the bonus of lowering the car and shortening the gears a touch when on track.

What I do is use a tyre calc but instead of putting old and new in put front and rear and compare the % / size diff between front and rear, then try to maintain that ratio as close as is reasonable with my new size choice while also keeping a reasonable ratio of widths front to rear. I like to keep to around 1% diff front to rear diameter with the rear being the larger, but not more than 2% and not less than 0%.

http://www.etyres.co...size-calculator

I have looked many times though and I always come up with the same, on 17" all round its 245/40 and 215/45 or.... 235/40 and 205/45.

If you are running without ABS and don't care about odd looking sizes, i.e. on track, then it's down to what you think is ok for you. The problem is with the rears though, you would have to step down again on width to get a smaller dia rear tyre than the 235/40. (edit... found you can get the R1R in 245/35 which would be quite a bit smaller dia but not R1R of appropriate size for the front)

Just had a quick look and for 888 or V70A you are stuck with 245/40, 215/45, both no longer make the 205/45. (don't think they aver did in the 888's to be honest)

not noticed any rubbing on RS-R 205/45/16 and 235/40/17 , good prices at the moment with them £68 fronts £78/£85 rears , thats the nice thing about the TD's , rather than ATS wheels

205/45/16 for 16" fronts £68

215/40/17 for wider 17" fronts £122

Could prob get away with the 235/40/17 and 215/40/17 but it's still a bit too much of a size difference for me, might not bother some people that run the 4 chan ABS or non.

RS-R 235/40/17's seem to have gone up by £20 since you posted, or was it a typo?

Got mine here http://yokohamatyresdirect.co.uk/ but were actually supplied by EARS ms. Was best price on the day for supply without fitting.

I have RI1R's on my spare TD's but they only seem to get used about 10% of my year with 888's being my main track and road choice so want similar tyres on the new 17's if they are to become my main wheel. I know teh RSR's are pretty good but various people have told me there not quite upto 888 standards and the Toyo V70's eem pretty good from what I'v seen and heard.

I'll keep in mind trying to get sizing close as will be sawpping between 16 and 17 fronts but will be running just one geo set up.

As I'm on my R1R's after/for Brands next week I'll keep an eye on this for a bit as the new wheels wont probably go on now until February/March.

Thanks all

Supposed to be coming thsi week and I still have no idea of what tyres, mainly as the ones I'm interested in only seem to do 215 fronts and my 195 R1R's and 888's both rub now.

Have been impressed by Federal 595 RSR of late (seem to be around £420 for 235 40 17 and 215 40 17) but Avon ZZR are pretty interesting too at £540 from the same sizes.

Would much prefer 205 fronts though.

I'm in the same boat regarding tyres. like the sound of the federals but think the 215 may rub, and not sure i want to cut the sills.

So where's the best/cheapest (same thing isn't it) to get the RSRs in the requireed sizes?

BRW, I'm happy to hack at the sills.
