heres some more modern gods following on from an earlier post: Science. Television. Footballers. (Specially that Handy Argie striker) iPhones Computers Rock stars Actors Celebs Here's you go...here's some of what makes so many people happy. You can see it and touch it and it answers your prayers so carry on believing in whichever suits your you.

They are not 'gods'. Unless we have reached such a stage of enlightenment that we don't use the dictionary any more, in my book god still means a supreme being or deity. I do not see many people deifying footballers or even celebrities. However, if I did, I would say the same thing to those people as I do to those that follow a religion. If I saw someone worshipping an iPhone or praying to it, I'd call them nuts.

I don't blame you for scoffing. ..if you're told about God and you choose to p*ss on everything you're told well God will judge you for it when yer times up. Quite what that means I can't say. All I can say is that yer time will be up and you could find yourself having to explain why.

Great way of getting people to believe in you. "If you don't believe I'm basically going to screw you over completely, so you better believe"

If there is a god out there somewhere and they are the ones that 'created' us (not that I believe that for one second), they also gave us free will, intelligence and reason. Any god that punishes you for exercising those qualities is not god I want to believe in and I'm better off on my own.

I'm with Stuwy; I've never had/heard/read any discussion with any religious person that's left me feeling uncertain about my own (non)beliefs and that they're not a little/lot on the nutty side. The more orthodox, the more nutty...or brainwashed.

No offence intended  :grouphug:

A good few pages back I think I wanted to say something similar? Using one of.my sisters as an example, she's gone all religious, she follows the true God, she does missionary work now & again. But the strange part of it is, this "religious group" aren't main stream & appear to get evicted & have to find a new base? Cuckoo, cuckoo!😜

Yep some strange cult type brainwashing goes on and then again money money money can be involved big time with some groups but if they get evicted all the time they don't sound well off

Thing is, from where I'm sat, despite what I've said aside from Stewy everyone is coming back for more. I don't blame anyone for feeling confused and annoyed. Load of jumbo-jumbo that you can't touch or see and knows every time you fart? That's a lot to get yer head around. And there's no cut and dried answers. So enter Belief...tthe title of this thread. Belief in something you can't see or touch and let's cancer kill your loved ones. Crazy eh? Anyone up for it? List 1. Casino. 2. Senna.

So you're using belief as a substitute for thought?

I can't Adam and Eve it myself.

It's unbelievable.

It's not confusing if you've had some divine intervention in your life, some Godly experience or some event that convinces you 100 % then your ok to believe. But for us just to believe because of some old book or because our family or friends say it's right is absolutely never going to happen well not in my life. We need more  What else you got ?

Lots matey. Of the same.lol. I can't change what's on offer. Or I could but it would be same as inventing another religion. What has everyone else got? What's your alternatives? You give me some answere.

Well for me just suddenly saying out of the blue for no apparent reason " I now believe in God and will worship him " then an odd church trip and a bit of praying and that's it eternal life ! I just can't see it. So basically my alternative is to plod on, trying not to be overly evil  If when I croak the lights just go out then fine. If I find myself in front of some God I will point out I've helped others done loads of charity work and never murdered anyone (yet ) and if he thinks I should burn in hell for that then he's a bastard

Haha..be careful what you wish for, you may get more than you bargained for. If God knows you're banging on his door wanting answers God will provide them. Youre not the only one full of misgivings about God wanting answers. He has His ways of dealing answers...probably not including me. For me..I'd say...you keep demanding answers. And doing your good deeds...Gods got his eye on you. Lol
