So, after Steve plugged his OPCOM in there is good and bad news:

Good - The P1271 error code seems to have done one and the accelerator is behaving itself :). Must have been the connectors thumbsup

Bad - The EML came on this time because of error code P0140, 'O2 sensor circuit open, bank 1, sensor 2'. Steve cleared it and hasn't come back on yet. It only came on in the first place under extreme provocation. Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this?

Doesn't that run through the black plug of the two loom of doom connectors? May be we disturbed it when fiddling. Bit of a coincidence it happening straight after we where in there. On the up side that sensor doesn't affect the running as far as I am aware.

So the EML came back on, no limp mode so it's probably the P0140 again. I have a very slight misfire when it's cold, any correlation between the two or totally separate issues? Apologies for my mechanical illiteracy :)

I have a cat but not sure what state it's in. There is a slight rattle from behind my head at certain revs too, could it be the heatshield? Impossible to say without hearing it I know. Thanks for the suggestions.

I get the Lambda sensor fault two or three times a year and have done since I got the car, either clears it's self after a few days or I re set it and its fine for a good few k miles. Obviously if it will not reset or happens regular you have a problem otherwise don't worry about it.

More thoughts:

1) Temperature has been running at 95-97C when at 70mph for several weeks now. Used to be rock solid 89C. Goes back down to 91C at town speeds.

2) Slight misfire at low revs when cold.

3) EML pointing to lambda sensor.

Could all of this be pointing to the lambda sensor?

I'd say yes, if it's running lean because of false lambda readings it will make the engine hotter.

So a new sensor may cure it? Are OEM ones still available?

They're just an NGK part. Only really two lambda suppliers anyway, them and Bosch. Front part number OZA531-GM6 Rear part number OZA531-GM3

Bank 1sensor2 is the post cat sensor and as far as I remember doesn't have any influence on the fuelling it's a check for how well the cat is working. So not sure how that would be causing lean running. Knowing the luck you have with your car you may have multiple problems.

I think, after taking everyone's advice and after much consideration I am going to carefully bury my head in the sand and pretend everything is just fine :D

Might want to consider this route: http://www.vx220.org...ement-guide-na/

I would also strongly suggest systematically going through all the connections on the car, inspecting and repairing damaged wires and cleaning the contacts. You have already found the blue and black connectors with problems, and the throttle pedal connector. There will probably be others.
