Bletch is right... you really need stiffer suspension and better dampers to take full advantage of the 048's! * :P *And more power, more torque, better brakes, change fluid, lighter parts, rear difuser, tuition.... :D

  @ CheekyChops As far as better dampers goes i had a chat with one of the sinclaire owners (forgotten his name :beat: ) about uprated suspension and all that stuff, his opinion was that the bilsteins were fine and most people only upgrade parts because they just get bored and feel the need to spend cash on parts that aren't really needed. Although i'm definately not getting bored with mine, i still feel i am slipping into that area. They are very good at Sinclaire and tell you what they think, not what is good for there pockets. thumbsup

I so agree with that, the suspension is fine as standard. Certainly don't think that any of us get near to 100% of it's capabilities

...uprated suspension and all that stuff, his opinion was that the bilsteins were fine and most people only upgrade parts because they just get bored and feel the need to spend cash on parts that aren't really needed.

So how come everyone who has upgraded their suspension is ecstatic about it?

Is it not generally accepted that tying a car down better brings a lot? Then better brakes (you're faster for longer) + better/wider rims/tyres for more grip.

Only when these aspects have been improved should one be looking at big power mods.

Mine is still standard – waiting to see if I can do the ABS/VXR rims here in Switz. – if yes, then it's Oehlins and supercharger for me.

Just look in the pics below at the tyre to wheel arch gap on my inside wheel compared to outside when cornering on the standard set-up – leaning like a double decker bus!

Can't believe that Ricky with Spax, Thorney with Nitrons, VXRs with Oehlins, Exige with Lotus Sports Suspension are all wrong.

Because they're trying to justify the expense to themselves ?

When you've brought your own driving ability up to the cars ability then I agree you could look at changing things

Just look in the pics below at the tyre to wheel arch gap on my inside wheel compared to outside when cornering on the standard set-up – leaning like a double decker bus

Does it matter if it leans ? Are you racing the car competitively ?

This sounds really negative and nasty but it does bug me that people feel the need to constantly replace and upgrade things on cars purely for the sake of it. Learn the car to it's limits first then start tweaking

All IMHO of course

I fitted a048's initially with standard suspension and on track days the fronts would roll right onto their outer shoulders, losing a lot of grip and requiring changing across the axle. Not so good. With nitrons you can lower the ride height and stiffer springs and dampers reduce roll a lot. BUT the standard nitron spring rates are WAY too stiff for road use IMO. It comes close to ruining the car. More "racy" yes, but overall far too harsh. Ideal solution IMO is to order nitron dampers but with spring rates only a little stiffer than standard. I will be fitting softer springs over the winter, but will also fit a stiffer roll bar to keep roll in check. I'd bet my house the vxr spring rates - even with the oehlins kit - are a fair bit softer than the nitron springs. I've said this before incidentally, but no-one agrees with me........
